What Happens to VST v2 Plugins in Older Projects When You Update the Plugin to v3 via Native Access?

hi, when changing a sound, any automation / modulation applied seems to be lost even though the new sound I’m loading has the same instrument (internal eg Bass Synth) is there any way to prevent this?
