Apple being the leading choice for new sales of premium devices is quite relevant for other companies that sell complimentary products in the $500 - $1000 range.

    Welp.. we'll see what happens.

I'm confident it will not be more of the same...

And I'm rather optimistic about things from all the bits and pieces coming together.

The move with iZotope really turning the burners up for what's ahead!

That is complete wrong optics. You have Apple with 17% (or so) marketshare. And the rest on android with over 80% marketshare.

So, android devices are the magnet for premium addon HW and SW. Much bigger market and possible buyers. Almost five time more than Apple's one.

I see Apple bashing is in full mode again by usual suspects 🤣

This 17% marketshare is worldwide and include developing countries and whole continents, like Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe and (yes) Russia. They are not buying a lot of iPhones/iPads because they are prohibitively expensive in relation to average earnings there or there is no digital infrastructure in place (Apple App Store, iCloud, etc.). They also don't buy Samsung Galaxy or Sony Xperia for the same reason, it's not just Apple. Cheap Chinese phones are the king there (Oppo, Huawei, etc.).

In Western Countries (USA, UK, West Europe), Apple has about 40-50% marketshare in mobile phones, tablets and wearables (this varies from country to country). Samsung has another about 40-50% of marketshare, the rest (other phone manufacturers) are meaningless. Android in general is 50-60% and iOS is 40%-50% in Western Europe (again, depends on a country). Simply because people earn more and can afford more. In UK (where I live), Apple and Samsung are literally everywhere, nothing else matters.

I wonder where NI would rather like to sell their (not so cheap) products worldwide, to people who can afford them or to people who can't?

Another thing, until very recently, Android was unusable for music software due to huge latency (iPhone always had Core Audio), this changes slowly, but most music software for phones/tablets is available on iOS/iPadOS only.

Apple's acquisition of Shazam brought in some intriguing technologies. ShazamKit is available for developers of of macOS, iPadOS.. and more.. even Android!

What might be possible for things like music training with a future NI ecosystem?

IPad in Europe less than 50%, US slightly over. But there is declining trend in marketshare in the both regions.

Is not it better to invest in growing market than to declining one?

Product cycle for broader range of Apple iPads with M1 is just getting started... new iPad Air with M1 just now out of the gate. Pretty exciting to see the impact of things to come.

And the stat source you chose is not even based on new product sales, but web traffic... inclusive of old devices.

The best is to invest in all platforms (desktop and mobile), including Linux. But that requires modern code base…

It depends.... Alongside the same line it would be great to produce broad range of HW. NI would produce Jam, S5, D2, ... Apple would produce fifty different processors and hundred of different models of Mac....

    Not always more is better.
