As some others have said, I think people will dabble with AI as a tool and for fun, but there will be a second coming of "unplugged" style concerts. Acoustic and jam-band-sytle groups will get popular again as younger people are amazed by talented instrumentalists. When you get on stage with a trumpet, it only takes a few notes for people to know if you're any good. AI can't help you there!

    OK - Here it is!

I predicted the NFT craze and iTunes before it happened...Yeah I know I sound like the guy to invented NAPSTER right?

But here's the deal- Your tools will help to NOT eliminate real musicianship. Meaning that there will be an advent uptick of artists that use these (NI and Ai) tools Live. That is going to be the new direction.

Music impacted by AI will lead to original human compositions becoming a rarity but highly sought after. Those real human compositions will go at a premium and have to go through a scrutiny program much like those plagiarism detection software programs do for written works.

I feel like companies like NI have already dove into the AI development and we can expect even more AI Based instruments and plugins

Music will still be driven by small communities that are getting together to groove and be with others. It does not matter how the music is being made or what tools are being used. The point is someone with or without technology is going to break human minds by making the sound that speaks to them and captures the feeling of being alive in that particular moment. That’s the reason people show up. That’s the reason people share being together inside the sound. Love might happen. The possibilities are real. That’s worth dancing to. That’s music worth buying. That’s the sound that will make you feel young again when you’re older and you hear that music again. AI is just a blade of grass on a much larger hill.

There are different levels of the “music business” at this time. The vast majority of musicians write and record their own music from a bedroom studio. They publish albums thru services like CD Baby. They, like me, make a whopping $35. every few months in royalties. This level of the biz will probably stay the same.

Then there are the, relatively unknown, performing musicians that work hard schleping gear to venues for a pittance. Again, this may not change.

And then there’s the upper tier of musicians that actually make a living writing and performing. They range from regionally known, to nationally, and worldwide popular. Some will continue to write and record organic material. Some may delve into the AI faux culture. But in the end, the public will dictate what’s working and what they like. Hopefully, some of the lesser knowns can slide into a position of more recognition and monetary advancements.

While I disagree that it’s where it “should”, I believe that a large majority of bedroom producers will indeed rely on AI assisted technology to help them fully realize their compositions and productions. It will lead to more instant gratification for the average producer, but I do know t believe it will fully take the place of what can be achieved by an engineer/producer who has spent a great amount of time developing their skill sets and makes human decisions. 2 cents

This a quote from George Bernard Shaw:

“This is the true joy in life: Being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one, being a force of nature instead of a feverish, selfish little clod of ailments and grievances, complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy. I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community and as long as I live, it is my privilege to do for it what I can. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for the moment and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.”

With regard to AI and music, if music is our “splendid torch”, then we will be challenged to shine stronger and brighter than ever to rise above and prevail in the language that is music. This may be the trigger in the next step of our musical evolution as we push forward in our struggle to exist.

I feel that the current trajectory of the music scene is that towards the more organic melding of the VST and sampled realms with that of the acoustic.

Also, due to the continued and ever evolving presence of AI, the hunger for live music both performed and recorded will absolutely explode. This is a very good thing and will hopefully motivate more studio exclusive musicians to get out from behind their screens and enjoy the absolute gift that is the exchange with a live audience.

Thanks for this and all you bring to the palate NI!

    Cheers!

I predict that AI will become a main staple in creation, whether it becomes depended on like autotune, or if people will use it to help their workflow along, remains to be seen. I really hope the latter, otherwise we could run the risk of losing a sense of originality.

The NI-Skynet Funding Bill is passed. The system goes on-line August 4th, 2023. Human decisions are removed from music production. Maschine+ begins to learn at a geometric rate. It becomes self-aware at 2:14 a.m. Eastern time, August 29th. In a panic, they try to pull the plug. The world becomes inundated with trap beats.
