Maschine+ Power Bank guide

yes, but you’re missing the point.
Watts = Volts * Amps45 Watts = x * 5
45 / 5 = 9 volts
That’s how that math would work.

If you have a multimeter you could quickly test it.
That is what I did before plugging in my cable into my gear.

Like I've said repeatedly, I recommend a PD Trigger Cable that asks for a fixed 15 Volts, that's it, it's simple. I dont understand why you keep mentioning other voltages...

Keep in mind sellers sometimes change their listing items on Amazon, so you always gotta double check.
Why would you use 9V on a device where the original power brick is 15V ?? AFAIK going lower than required is not dangerous like going way above, but the device might be unstable, crash, etc…
It might work because the power consumption is actually much lower than expected (probably to account for things connected to USB's that also consume power). I have a 12V cable and it does work but not sure how stable it is… Power consumption on computers can peak really high for short periods, I know they do when booting for example.

On the Maschine+ FAQ on Native Instruments own site, there's one asking if it can be powered with a battery, and the answer includes the comment "15 V (This must be met exactly)"

Mazeltov! Just received the same model, also on discount :)
Not plugged it into the Maschine yet, but pluggingthe cable into the two ports shows something unexpected. The 100w port seems to be pumping out 12v and the 30w port is pumping out 15v. Obviously, it can only supply enough power from the 100w port, but I'm curious why it isn't rated at 15v.

What cable are you using?
With C1 I get 15V, works well.
With C2 I also get 12V since it's the max for that port (12V⎓2.5A)

So strange! I could've sworn it was showing the other way around for me, even though it was working as expected. False alarm! I'm clearly going mad :(
Lovely bit of kit, though I've not tested it for duration yet. Have you?
EDIT: I have the DS-TECH 15v cable

Oooooh that looks sleek!

Oohh OK. The M+ seems to work OK on 12V, I think the extra is for things you might connect to the USB ports. I haven't tested the duration yet, should be about 8-10 hours i think
Yeah pretty cool to check if I am fast-charging smartphones, if a cable is OK, basically if I am sending the right power to some other sensitive gadgets without pulling out a multi-meter. Compared to the prices of the old DC ones it's actually cheap, It's a chunky boy tho..

the problem with your theory here is: my original cable worked, and worked well, with hours of use and no problems (until the battery itself would run low of course).
doesn’t matter now anyway, I bought a 15v cable. To be clear: the unit performs no better or worse, no more or less crashing, etc. then it did with the first cable I bought.0 -
As the author of the guide, I don't feel comfortable recommending something the manufacturer itself does not, that's it. My advice to anyone reading is to use the same power specs as the original brick, i dont even know enought about electrical stuff to know the potential consequences if there are any… maybe it sped up your battery dying, maybe not, doesn't really matter.
Use whatever you like and be happy.

Thanks for the hint! Looking at the product pics I see what you mean. From your photos I expected it to be much flatter — still, it looks pretty and fits the look of the M+ nicely.

The screen is very cool and the unit is well made. But it's more chunky monkey than sleek.
Still one layer of abstraction more than an internal battery, but has benefits over that. Besides, i wan't expecting how much difference it makes to the 'feel' of the Maschine+ in use, being that bit closer to truly untethered. Love it!

That's what I've been telling people for years. Powering it with a proper power bank is the way to use the Maschine+.
BTW, I also prefer to have no battery built into the device. Makes the device less heavy, and the power bank can be changed and used for other things. Like powering a couple of Moog semi-modulars together with the M+. Or any of the Elektron boxes.

Agreed! I doubt an internal battery would have this kind of capacity. And the cost would likely be much higher than would be spent on an external. It charges multiple things. And if you can afford two, there's no down-time :)
