I have them both on my system but it takes some work as they share the same scanapp so I keep having to swap between the 2 versions. In principle though I don't see why NI couldn't make this possible but making KK 2.9 more self contained.

Actually , my hammer-action 88 keys keyboard is an over 1000 EUR/USD synth that suffers from among others very poor USB drivers and that got almost zero direct support from maker (very well known brand) , since with respect to Synths then even an "over 1000 EUR/USD" unit is not necessarily considered anything at all , that usually just buys you into the bottom 'entry' layer of a product range, for which layer interest in supporting is not that great.. I found out it all too late and there were really no going back (other than by loosing a lot of money) , and not at all for sure by now. So I can say for sure that I know how it feels to have more or less zero support on a unit maybe 2 years old...

I am sure that people here won't fell any different because of it , but compared then N.I. support , even for MK1, is almost stellar !

Just saying , not going to otherwise discuss my synth or the brand !

After I sold my S61 Mk2, I promised myself never to buy „dumb” midi controller anymore. All performance functions should work ON DEVICE, both via USB and via MIDI and the controller should be fully programmable on its own and work as class compliant device. That way, it will never become obsolete, unless it’s physically broken.

The Mk1 situation only reaffirmed my opinion.

Someone on a budget with an older machine who gets it at a bargain price, for being a client of that business in the first place. In the business s accounting that product will have been broken down and depreciated over the years anyway.

Why would I sell fully functional, not so old keyboard? With great loss... It will work fine for many years...

I have already stated my solution. My future keyboard will not be NI one.... Maybe I skip Komplete Update here and there. Definitely, I will cut down my investments to NI HW and SW to a fraction of current spendings.

I can't do anything to change the past. I've joined the team to help the future.

I can't explain that - I don't administer our email database, and I've no way of looking that up (it would be an extreme data protection issue if just any employee could do so).

But lists do get cleaned, periodically a new opt-in is required, that sort of thing. Perhaps that is what happened? I've no idea, but if you PM me your email, I can try and pass it along to that team.

Yes, it's a very personal decision that each us will make in ways that fit our needs/desires.

I myself enjoy the evolutionary journey that happens in music creation technology. I am willing to "suffer" the bumps and bruises that happen along this path. It's expected and part of the experience.

And there is gonna awkward times as a company like NI shapes their products for the vast assortment of users.

Example of KK Sxx MK1 clearly shows, where leads your vision of dumb HW powered by smart SW run on computer....

It may very fast become hard to use piece of HW.... No more. At least not for me. ;-)

I am aware of that statement.

I just expressed a thought of a reconsideration if it is practical to do.

"I just expressed a thought of a reconsideration if it is practical to do."

Makes sense to me but clearly there is a technical angle here than no one user really understands or even wants to consider.

Logically - if having two versions of KK installed side-by-side was even a remote possibility - I would think NI would have done that as Step 1 here - if for nothing else than to save them from all headache-inducing comments that are flying around.

As I said above it is technically possible as I have done it myself so I could continue to create NKS as currently as we know some editing features of KK3 are locked out, albeit temporarily I am informed, but it could still be months before I can use it to edit presets so I had to try it. It does take renaming some files and swapping over the scanapp version if you want to plugins to update in each version as it is shared, so I would not recommend this to the average user. Also it only works with the standalone app.

Sounds like a non-starter for the masses - but nice detective work :)

In an alternative universe, the S-MK3 could have been a full split from MK1, MK2.

KK3 for MK3 only with zero developer requirement of NKS1 backwards compatibility (and the old Machine-based need of prepping NKS1).. allowing new NKS2-enabled content to be a firehose of offerings!

KK2 for MK1 and MK2 with continued development for both. Less aggressive feature additions, but longer ongoing OS compatibility.

However, this alternative universe would have had even more people upset I'm sure.

It would have been a mess to handle.

But the new MK3 would fly faster and higher and made me happier!

    Sigh.....

NI made the right choice for the most people.
