How to Pin the browser when auditioning sounds on MK3 ( Komplete Kontrol )
Answers

Adding my voice to the chorus of those who expect far better UIX that we are getting with Komplete Kontrol 3. It is incredibly cumbersome to use compared to KK2. At the very least, there should have been some provision to allow us a similar UI to what was so incredibly easy to work with. The amount of back and forth clicks required to do something as simple as auditioning sounds (not just the audio clips, but in context with our compositions) is absurd. NI KK hardware is already a large compromise in terms of any functionality outside of Komplete Control instruments (ie as a simple midi controller), but now that the software is also getting worse and worse, I see zero reason to invest in your hardware again when others for the same price offer pads, sliders, etc.
For heaven's sake, PLEASE let me see both the browser AND the plugin at the same time. Anything less is a ridiculous and unnecessary impediment to workflow.

development has been incredibly slow and it’s difficult to understand why this is taking so long to make progress on such a simple request. furthermore, I’d appreciate it if NI devs would ask what we want instead of just making terrible design decisions in the future.

it’s modern NI, don’t expect too much and you wont be disappointed.

Anyone at NI care to comment on this thread to let us know what's going on with this feature request ?

If you are part of the Beta i'd suggest adding posts on the forums in there too. Not that it does any good but if you bring up an issue a few times on the forums here you are kind of labelled as a winger since it's seemingly impossible for anyone up there to understand how changes or losses of function like this could possibly cause frustration and anger especially when it drags on for 2 years without ANY word of a possible fix.

Hi Jester,
Yes I have posted in the beta forums as well, but the NI reps seemed to have no clue about what the feature request even means. Pretty sad , we can’t get straight answers regarding this simple request.
And they wonder why they’re losing customers0 -
NI reps any updates ?

Given that the latest version (3.4.1) was released slightly over a month ago I wouldn't expect to hear much about this feature until they get a little further into the upcoming release cycle. The most they could tell you at this point is whether it's under consideration or not. I have to believe we're at least a couple of months away from the feature list being "frozen" for the next release. Even then, it's not a promise since it would still need to complete all the various final stages of testing before they'd commit to it as that's the normal process for software releases.
I kind of remember something about a Q3 release (probably late Q3) on the next KK release plan, but don't quote me on that.

For those of us who remain a tad confused - what exactly does "pin the browser" mean?
And - is this possible in V2.9.6?
I have seen references to this a few times and need some context.

Sure, the Komplete Kontrol MK2 we had the ability to pin the browser. Literally a tack on the UI that would allow users to keep the browser open when searching the 100k sounds we’ve acquired. ( Practical application ) this works on the KK MK2 hardware.
We then upgraded to the KK MK3 hardware and it was removed by Native Instruments, so now you cannot constantly view the browser, yet the browser disappears when you select ( load ) a sound. Making the customer experience terrible, and you then are forced to play a game of hide and seek!
It was explained to me that NI felt this was better! If you never owned KK MK2 , you’d never know that feature existed.0 -
Have been using v2.9.6 for 4 years now.
Still do not make a connection to any “tack” or “pin” in the UI. Whether it be standalone or the plugin version.
Maybe my workflow is different or a screencap would help?VP

Yes I’d assume if you never used the feature, you’re not missing it. Many others who were used to it, that upgraded from the MK2 to the MK3 are bothered by it.
NI has said they’re adding it in an update and I am one of those that will be happy when they do. I don’t use Komplete Kontrol in my productions because this feature is missing, at the moment it’s such a disappointment to the point I’m again looking at other master midi controllers. Trying to wait on critical workflow updates from NI for me has yet again become slowly painful and the same reason I left before.
I do use the s88 MK3 hardware as it works well, but the Komplete Kontrol v3 software just drives me mad knowing what it could be if NI would just make its workflow better.0 -
Well it’s a whole lot more than not using it. It’s more like “never heard of it”
I will take a closer look this weekend.

You would understand better if you tried out KK V3, it's one of the biggest failings of the "redesign" and what many of us consider a huge downgrade.
"Pinning The Browser" in V2 is just automatic, you select the "Browser" or use the B key and it shows a persistent browser on the left even when you open the plugin, the browser, plugin window and control editor are ALL shown on-screen, no additional clicking or ****** like that, just nice and efficient, clean and simple workflow that we have all come to love.
One of the major complaints with KKV3 is this is no longer possible and instead requires constant flipping back and forth, not to mention clutters up the browser and makes it somehow even less informative by truncating so much of the preset names now!
So this is what people mean by pinning the browser, being able to browse presets while also still using the actual plugin. There are still very few (if any) aspects of the new GUI that some of us would say have actually improved anything at all.2 -

Now I get it. And yes - considering I have never clicked the B key - until today - this is why I would have never known this existed.
For me - definitely another strike against KKv3. This is very valuable to my workflow.
Thank you for clearing my confusion :)
