I don't even know how to put this politely anymore.
It's been four years and the S4Mk3 still has no MIDI mode.
This is far beyond disgusting. I'ts feels more like a Pioneer move honestly.
When is NI going to fix this?
Hi everybody,
let me quickly add some insights here. We did not remove MIDI implementation off of the S2 MK3, S3 or S4 MK3. The facts are the following:
S2 and S3 have what we call native MIDI support. These two units have a specific MIDI control assigned to each button and knob on the device as part of their firmware. This eliminated the need to use the Controller Editor for these units. Unfortunately this also removes the option to change the Note or CC that a specific control is sending.
Bottom line, these devices send MIDI but do not support customisability of what kind of messages are being send.
S4 MK3 has never supported MIDI in the first place. This has been a decision we needed to take back during the development process due to the increased architectural complexity of the product.
I hope this has cleared things up a bit 😁.
cheers from Berlin
Michael
All i wanted to complain about is the fact that I have a pretty good Midi controller with a brilliant multi I/O soundcard that is not usable to control any other software than Traktor. Once NI was on the bright side of the force making cool stuff and encouraging people to do creative stuff with their products. Of course NI can do whatever they want but I don't need another company in my life acting like ****** PioneerDJ.
And honestly, I don't get @MichaelK_NI 's answer. I know, displays, jogwheels and stuff. Just give us MIDI mode for the faders and buttons and I'm, good. :-)
Lest we forget... MIDI mode was promised as a "to come" feature, but as @marinelli says "It's been [FIVE] years and the S4Mk3 still has no MIDI mode".
~slowhandclap NI 😏
Hey @Michael_NI , more global controls is really needed since MIDI mode is not going to happen. Looking forwards to seeing this implemented. Happy Holidays.
+1 for Midi Mode at S4MK3
Are there any news about a "reduced" midi mode or more global controls?
I see it this way: I don't think the product policy of the last few years has been friendly towards the end user. What has happened? The products have become more expensive, at the same time more inflexible and equipped with fewer controller knobs and pots. In my opinion, the marketing efforts have been increased and the actual product quality downgraded. I myself use the KONTROL S4 Mk2. Why? I have a midi mode with which I can also map other DJ software. For example, Algoriddim DJay has a much simpler stem mode and a "real" beat sync for tempo changes. Traktor still has some catching up to do.
