There is NOTHING more iconic than Paul McCartney's opening guitar solo on Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Short, yes, but everyone knows it - the definition of iconic.

I chose Larry Carlton’s solo on Steely Dan’s “Kid Charlemagne.” It’s brilliant lyrical playing over complex changes with impeccable technique and tone. https://youtu.be/jJ9Xk-VoGqo

I do kind of like the solos from Alex Lifeson - older Rush songs - here's one, the 2nd solo from Freewill off the Exit Stage Left album, Live in Montreal. Not the best solo in the world but lots going on in there in an old favorite song of mine.

Love that album and listened to it daily when I was young. Definitely a good choice for solos and great guitar work - that he still does on tour today.

Hotel California by the Eagles just has such an awesome guitar solo with lots of nuanced licks that really play with your expectations in a cool way!

John Norum of Europe with great timing and skills to building peaks and valleys, here in a four minute solo. Faster stuff in the second half.

By the way if you don't know Norum here is a compilation of his early work, the fast playing in the second half is pretty crazy. Check out the comments too. Enjoy!

Initially thought Floyd and comfortably numb, but seeing as we are talking about Mint and Stratocaster here I am going to suggest one of the great players of this instrument, Mr Slow-hand Eric Clapton and Cream's version of Crossroads. A sublime bit of playing...

Eddie Van Halen, Michael Jackson, and Quincy Jones. 'Nuff said. 😊

Gary Moore - Still got the blues
So much expression and feeling in every note

Wow! So many great solos to name and choose from. While I normally would go with Eddie Van Halen on MJ's "Beat It," I would now have to say Prince's "Purple Rain."
It just hits so much different now that he's gone. Beautiful. 🟪🟪🟪☔☔☔

For me, the solo of all times is a great instrumental by Gary Moore called “The Loner”. We played it in our band when we were youngsters. And it is a piece of guitar solo that is inside my head when I think of what we were back then.
