Pretty difficult to "reduce" technical debt if every second NI user on these boards are harping away about "where's my Battery update?" or "Why can I not use my S61 MK1 with Komplete Kontrol 3" or my favorite "Why can't I install and authorize software I bought in 2011 - where is Service Center?"

Every single time NI tries to do something - anything - to clean up some old junk from yesteryear - someone rolls right in and lays out their case for why it should continue.

Couple this with the clear lack of in house programming knowledge - to actually understand what tech debt it is they need to clean up (since they have all left) and you can see why this is a never ending road to frustration.

I know very well about tech debt. Been in the industry since the 90s. There is just no excuse to have this glacial speed of upgrades except for losing all the knowledge, or strategic decisions to not allocate resources. Not if you had 10 years.

Well - as others have mentioned - the venture capitol group that owns NI now - has no intention (it seems) to reinvest in this old stuff - or in the people that built it in the first place.

For what it appears - the bottom line is to simply retire something, wipe the slate and carry on with new (easier to build - like real easy) stuff. Keeps it cheap, keeps the resources budgets low and keeps the dollars flowing in - not out.

Sounds like a typical VC playbook to me.

Turnover is a typical way to justify good/bad choices. From my own perspective as many, some are understandable and some are probably too technical to understand for simple human being like us I guess .
