That is normally how it is done so it is still valid for the vast majority of people, I have used this many times myself. It seems somehow you have added them initially in a way that appears to have been not as intended, and therefore the consequences are unexpected

That doesn’t mean it’s not a bug - clearly there is buggy behaviour here that needs fixing - but to do that it would need to be replicable, which means providing information about what you did that led to this situation

You do realize that this specific dialog box is only used to add Kontakt libraries that are NOT part of any standard Native Access installation and that are not already listed in the standard Kontakt "Library" pane.

You do not need to "add" your entire Komplete library to this area whatsoever.

Over here - I have 3 third party libraries - one from Indiginus and two from Zero-G - that have nothing to do with Native Access and can only be used via the Files tab in Kontakt.

But in order to have them appear (and their presets) appear in the new Kontakt "Library" view - I used this dialog to add them.

But none of my standard Kontakt stuff - that is installed via Native Access - needs to be added here.

I think you are misunderstanding the overall use of this dialog and what should (and should not) be listed here.

I am just trying to be helpful, so don't shoot me if you don't like my idea, but what about completely removing K8? Uninstall and search for all folders named Kontakt 8 and delete. Maybe even search the registry for Kontakt 8 and delete anything that might point to those folders. (this at your won risk).

Might take maybe half an hour, it's not a fix but might free you from the mess.

If you have komplete Kontrol installed you might want to uninstall that too.

Not really. in that "Import content" window. If I add any of the folders I previously added there (to test), the dialog tells me the "address was already added" but since it doesn't show up at all I cannot remove it.

How do you actually know you "need" to remove it?

Maybe this error is exactly what is says it is - "You already added this directory full of stuff - no need to add it again". And if that is the case - there is no need to list anything or "remove" anything either.

Until you actually test with something that is not part of your existing install - not sure you will never solve this.

And I really like @Vinark idea. Simply dump Kontakt 8 and start over.

There is a fine line between troubleshooting and pain. For me - if I cannot solve an issue in 30 minutes - it's more efficient to simply start over.

Download the gif please. The web broswer does not play it.

Downloaded - and it is still just a .gif.

Assuming this is an "animated .gif" but that is not an option here in MS Edge.

Have you tried deleting '/Users/username/Library/Application Support/Native Instruments/Kontakt 8/user_config.db3' which is where the imported folder paths are stored? (that's the Mac path, don't know the Windows one)

Actually also Komplete.db in the same folder. I think one is the backup for the other

    Understood.

But I believe we have already established that adding the actual entire D drive will not work.

Firstly - You cannot just add D:\ and assume this dialog will parse the 50-100 folders below the root.

Use of this dialog only works if you do like I did in my screencap. Single paths to single libraries - one after the other.

Secondly - I still suspect this error has nothing to do with some mysterious "memorized" paths or a directory entry hiding in the registry etc. This message could mean something different (but obvious):

    image.png

It could mean that - this action of adding the whole D:\ Drive IS actually looking into your D:\ Drive - and instantly senses that that "Abbey Road Drums" (at the top of your D drive directory structure):

    image.png

    - IS already known to Kontakt (1+2):

    image.png

And if so - it is telling you it is a duplicate path and cannot be added again.

Finally - you also seem to be ignoring all the good suggestions made by @Vinark and @Kymeia - which if this were me - I would have done long ago.

Whatever you have tried to do here - is clearly not supported, not tested and not salvageable. None of us will be able to solve this here in the forums - as this issue seems way off the normal operations for this dialog box and standard usage of Kontakt.

Strong suggestion to uninstall Kontakt 8, clean the files that Kymeia noted and start over with a fresh install. Please let us know how it goes.

I already tried uninstalling Kontakt and deleting the database many times. Each time I start K8 it starts building the database and I will be in the same situation.

These root addresses are stored somewhere else, either in the registry under a GUID or somewhere in the system that is not where kontakt is installed. I've searched everywhere but can't find them.

Also: If root addresses aren't good, why is the app allowing me to add them in the first place? Or, why is it not listed there so I can delete it?

Which database did you delete? As I said both databases need to deleting as one backs up the other

    I just deleted "user_config.db3" and "Komplete.db"

Launched K8 again and it starts building the db again.

I'm using "Everything" to find the files, which is pretty effective in finding things fast.
