When you are in Mixer Overlay (eq/gain controls), the top arrows are inactive unless it is a stem deck or a remix deck.

I don't own a Z1 yet, but yes, it would be pretty easy for me to add superknobs. Pretty hard to explain how to do it if you have no previous experience.
