Re the "Users beware but you're responsibility" runniest at the top of this page, if Clean My Mac has this effect on installed Native Instruments products, the responsibility is not with users (who can hardly be expected to guess how destructive it can be to legitimately installed products) but with the makers of Clean My Mac, who have a duty to discover such bugs before putting their product on the market. They re costing innocent people a lot of time and heartache.

for anyone else looking…this certainly worked!

I used Clean my Mac about a week a go because my System Data was balooning! it seemed to have done it's job…..apart from breaking Kontakt!

Clean my Mac now. uninstalled…..FYI it also seems to have introduced problems with my Izotope products but have now re-installed them

I have a different issue on PC Win 11, I have 10 entries of instruments I no longer own in my uninstall list even though I uninstalled them through Native Access. If I try to run another uninstall I get an error message saying it can't find the files as they are no longer on the computer and i can't remove them from the list.

I just got burned by this.

I tend to shy away from cleaners, but CleanMyMac has HISTORICALLY been pretty good, because as an uninstaller it removes metadata left behind when you just drag some apps to the trash.

But, I let it lure me in and I let it clean up "leftover files" - after which, my entire Kontakt installation was broken. It took me a little bit before I correlated the fact I had ran CleanMyMac earlier in the day and the fact I was now having problems. I just happened to be Googling CleanMyMac issues and saw this thread for NI and was like "aha! it DID screw me over!".

It seems like what it removed for me were files named "com.native-instruments.*" in ~/Library/Preferences wherever there was no correspondingly named installed application in /Applications (which makes sense why it wiped out Kontakt libraries).

Not wanting to reinstall hundreds of GB for Komplete, I went into my Time Machine backup from earlier in the day and restored just these com.native-instruments.* files in ~/Library/Preferences.

    Voila! It actually fixed it.

    Hopefully nothing else is wrecked.

Yes, other things were wrecked. It removed a bunch of preferences files for things like my Isotope libraries.
