Clean My Mac causing a lot of issues with our products. Please read.

Hey everyone, we've seen a lot of issues recently due to Clean My Mac's latest version, it's deleting crucial files or login items necessary for our programs, like the following:

Native Access missing products

Kontakt missing libraries

Komplete Kontrol mk2 keyboards host integration not working.

So if you're having a similar issue and you have Clean My Mac installed we recommend to uninstall it totally and reinstall our software. We usually do not recommend such programs and have an article about it but this version is particularly nasty. Notes on Using Registry or Property List Cleaning Utilities

thank you, do you know if Time Machine can bring back authorization or this kind of file.I had exactly this problem yesterday night ? I just did a machine before I use clean my Mac 5. Thank you for your answer

No, Time Machine would not really help here, as it creates other issues. The solution is to uninstall CleanMyMac and reinstall any problematic software.

clean my Mac gave me issues with other software as well back on sierra, which is why i don’t use it anymore.. btw i just sneezed, i am done with NI they can’t even prevent my cold now. I’m done haahah smh

As most people are aware both Apple and Microsoft strongly urge people to not mess with the registries because there are so many undocumented dependencies that can get corrupted and only the software vendor should mess with them. I know, we all do it, but it's a risk any time you do.

The people you should be asking to get their poop together is the vendor of the registry cleaning utility. After all they're the ones that corrupted someone else's software.

I do use Revo Uninstaller on Windows, but mostly to track and log changes being made during product installs. That log is used during the subsequent uninstall phase, if you start the uninstall process with Revo. Revo always calls the product's uninstaller first, and it runs that before deleting any leftover folders on disk or keys in the registry. Revo backs up the registry before making changes. In addition to that, my backup program (Macrium Reflect) does incremental backups every 8 hours.

Revo can insure a fully clean uninstall, not just by changing the Windows Registry, but also by deleting folders related to the thing that you're uninstalling. But you always get to review the list of registry items being modified/removed, and you always have the choice to decline that option.

I never do a "general cleaning", although I would trust Revo.

I also have (on rare occasion) had to remove registry entries manually. It's not for the faint of heart, but I cut my teeth on a program "HMASPZP", which was also called "superzap". You could directly modify data on disk or in memory with that.

I'm using Windows 11 and Mac. On one Windows 11 machine, the registry has been around since about 2012. I plan to (finally) reset Windows and reinstall everything on that machine; probably in 2025 or '26. I don't use any 3rd party "uninstallers" on Mac.

But having said all of that, I'm with @DunedinDragon and @Jeremy_NI. Most people should not use registry editors. That's why I have backups going around the block and back in time up to about 3 months. I can always revert any changes that might go pear-shaped.

Hi. I also made the same mistake with cleanmymac. After uninstalling cleanmymac I tried reinstalling Komplete Kontrol but I keep getting a message that there is a file this plugin cannot find.
I’m not sure how deep to dig in my Mac
In short: should I delete everything from NI and reinstall it or is there an easier way?

I've never had a single problem with a reg cleaner. I use one regularly. I even edit my registries. It's not rocket science

I've had multiple problems with NI uninstall. It's the bomb attached to the rocket called NI if ya get my drift

I'd generally recommend not to use such apps. They do very little to nothing you can't do manually, and, they often causes issues, when they automagically delete stuff you allegedly "don't need".

I can't speak to the uninstall of NI uninstall because I've never used it. But the main point of any reg cleaner is to isolate "orphaned" registry entries, usually orphaned in the process of uninstalling, which are what causes problems. Certainly if NI left orphaned entries, that's on them. If the reg cleaner didn't find them and get rid of them, that's on the reg cleaner. Any reg cleaner worth its salt that's not granted administrator rights will usually have failures and SHOULD give you a log of such failures so you can follow up and determine why. If it does that and you don't follow up, that's on you.

Why would Time Machine not help? Doesn’t it just revert the system to the selected backup point?

Time Machine can bring it's own issues sometimes: My Native Instruments Product does not work after using Migration Assistant / Time Machine / Carbon Copy Cloner (Mac OS)
