Attaching a second MIDI keyboard to Kontakt S49 MK3 doesn't work

I am trying to use Kontakt7 or Ableton with my Kontrol S49 MK3 and a Yamaha keyboard at the same time, using the Kontrol keyboard as a MIDI interface for the Yamaha keyboard. So I attached the Yamaha MIDI OUT to the Kontrol MIDI IN. The Yamaha keyboard is sending MIDI signals on Channel 1 (I verified this by connecting it to another keyboard).

On my computer (Windows 11 pro) I run Kontakt7. Under MIDI I set "KONTROL S49 MK3" to
"Port A" so that the Midi signals from Kontrol S49 keyboard play on Kontakt 7. I also set "MIDIIN3 (KONTROL S49 MK3)" to "Port A". This should send the MIDI signals from my Yamaha keyboard through the Kontrol keyboard to Kontakt 7. At one time this worked. After fiddling around with other things (such as changing audio driver settings etc.) I tried again to connect my Yamaha keyboard but somehow the MIDI signals from the Yamaha keyboard don't reach Kontakt7, while the Kontakt S49 keyboard itself works perfectly fine with Kontakt7. I also tried Ableton and Kontakt Komplete and have the same issue.

Are there any settings that I am unaware of that need to change? Is there a hardware defect? Any help is welcome.

MK3 keyboards to not yet support the MIDI ports functioning at the same time as USB.

Thanks. Does anyone have any idea whether this will be supported in the future? Even though it is not supported, it was working for me on two occasions: I was using the USB Midi out with Kontakt7 and the DIN Midi in (MIDIIN3) connected to another keyboard at the same time. The only problem is that I cannot consistently reproduce the setup. Maybe there is a way to circumvent the software limitations, by doing certain steps (starting the Kontakt7, connecting the midi ports, turning on the keyboards etc.) in the right order. If anyone finds out let me know!

I should add that I also use a separate USB power source besides the USB Midi connection to the computer.
