Don’t know what you mean by „case“ but UDG offer good quality backpacks suited for traveling musicians/DJs/producers.

By Case I mean king of backpack or other flight case design for maschine in which I can put my MacBook Pro 13, a power bank, my headphone and my stereo speaker I’ve find Sony SRS-XB43.

so my setup will be :

A power bank for my MacBook 13 pro

    macbook pro 13

    Maschine MK3

    Headphone

portable stereo speaker Sony SRS XB43

    MK3 + charged-up laptop is more standalone than M+.

I am not familiar with the MPC Live 2, but that one is 100% standalone. You'll have to get used to the MPC workflow, which is mostly a matter of personal taste.

    I would go for MK3+laptop.

Before making any decision, and if it's not urgent or essential: NI staff has rumored here they are working on something new. Nobody knows if it will be a software update for Maschine, or 1 or more new controllers. No idea on the timing neither.

True, but I find a bit odd that nowadays somehow the word "standalone" and "mobile / battery-powered" have become somewhat interchangeable.

Matthew already shut down the idea/rumors that a Maschine MK4 is coming anytime soon, unfortunately, I cant find the quote atm. It still could happen but it's very, very unlikely.

just some personal experiences: i use an MK3 with a small 13" Macbook (air), i keep the macbook lid almost closed so i don't see the screen, and after 10 minutes i even forget there is as laptop powering the MK3, it just works and feels like a standalone hardware device.... especially when you use longer USB cables you can "move" the macbook away in a corner or out of sight.

How do you configure the MacBook to work in clamshell mode ? How do you handle with the sleeping mode ?

    I’m really interested about this.

The MK3 will never be more standalone than a M+, even with a laptop, simply because the M+ can do whatever the MK3 can do with a laptop, plus work standalone. Just thought i'd add that distinction as it gets mentioned a lot without adding context.

I guess if you're going on holiday then the laptop would be going with you anyway, so maybe that's great for keeping the same set up?

I've always wondered if the speaker in the Live is good enough for actually making music as opposed to just listening back to your music for fun? Asking really, as I can't imagine it replacing headphones for making critical choices when creating music to the highest quality?

Also, how do you make your music? Do you use lots of instruments, or is it mostly made using Expansions and your own samples, plus the occasional use of the included synths? I guess that could sway your decision, by how deep you are into the ecosystem. Myself, I love the freedom away from the computer and have never needed the benefits of using Maschine with a computer, so it's a real game changer having a simple to use, yet deep instrument to create music with. For the occasional holiday though, is it really worth the cost to upgrade? I go on holiday to enjoy the culture, food, drink, and other experiences. Do people really want to make music on holiday?

That is objectively false, it factually cannot do all an MK3 + computer does.

Context is what I said... M+ cannot edit tags, has poor file management, cannot MIDI Map, you can't see/edit modulation/automation, it cannot run all instruments/plugins, you cant edit certain parameters on instruments that require a mouse, CPU/RAM is way more limited than any semi-decent laptop, the list goes on and on...

But, admittedly calling a laptop + controller in a music production context "standalone" is kind of weird, if a computer needs to be involved than it's not a standalone.

On holidays it is often when I have free time, holidays or weekend to move away from every thing is in my everyday’s life …

but also I don’t want to spend too much money and I already have a MK3 which I use in my studio.

speakers on the Live are good enough to listen and have fun with friend. For a small live like accosting live for guitars for exemple you can easily play with the built in speaker, I was really surprised about the quality for built in speaker in this case really different than my MacBook built in speakers …

I use usually some midi track 8 -10 some effect on this and usually 3 audio tracks

I think I will keep the mk3 for the moment, I’m adding stereo portable speaker, a case, my computer, a powerbank It will be enough for me for the moment.

I buying all my stuffs and I will send you picture.

I think his point was that the m+ (tethered) can do exactly what the mk3 does.

So to say the mk3 and laptop is “more standalone” doesn’t make sense. M+ and laptop is equal , not less. M+ has the extra ability to not use a laptop as well

Personally i felt that the tethered to a laptop was more portable / convenient than carrying an extra battery, speakers, cord for sampling, extra storage, etc. and all the cords. So i actually traded down from M+ to mk3

Monark, Massive, FM8, Prism, Retro Machines, drum synths, bass synth and poly synth. All this in the box. It’s insane really. If you know how to tweak, even if you start with a preset, that’s all you need. Not to mention Raum also, what a beast effect. I’ve been trying so many different units and synths and plugins and tbh, you need to know how to work the synths and effects, and massive is really what the title says. I can’t say it’s worse than any other plug-in I have on my laptop.

    The M+ is awesome!

I have mine connected to a SOUNDBOKS Gen 3 in the garden! BOYAH!

to quote a slogan from a Swedish HIFI store: bad sound kills good music.

Why in the world would anyone wanna create music on built-in speakers?? For the love of goooooooood
