I've updated all the factory presets with an adapted version of the new NKS Init template adding the ability to change wavetables and OSC mod modes

Maschine put aside, I wonder if the Komplete Kontrol mk3 sells well or not.

I am quite a NI fanboy who bought all iterations (Maschine, KK) of their device.

But I have 0 interest in the KK MK3 and keep my KK Mk2 which is, for me, superior.

Totally feel the same way. NI have become a company less focussed on creating awesome stuff and more interested in selling content. It's mostly good content, but it's ultimately disposable stuff with no lasting value. Of course this equally applies to many other companies and is just a sign of our times. But some companies do it better and other do it worse, and for what it's worth, I think that NI is a company that does it worse.

Am I the only one thinking Massive being NKS2 will lead to the same situation we have with Komplete keyboards? AKA NI telling us that they can’t put things in the controllers (Maschines) we already have because of technology stacks and so on and so forth, and therefore we have to buy something new?

I see so many people happy about it (and even relating it to Maschine+), but if our controllers can’t handle it and the only risk is that they will become obsolete, it makes me a little scared.

    Am I missing something?

Do not expect ANYTHING NKS2 related to happen on old hardware.

NI strategically sees anything to do with NKS2 requiring a "hardware-dongle" of new gear with an on-device screen and new CPU.

Could new features of NKS2 and Play Assist happen in desktop software too?

Sure!... but NI is choosing to not offer this option.

I wouldnt panic just yet. NKS2 is barely out the door, I'm sure there are still many things "in flux" when it comes to product support

But with regards to Massive, the new NKS mapping in the 1.60 version works in Maschine, which AFAIK still uses NKS1, so new things are happening even for NKS1 users

Well, that's some good news! The mapping is for everything, clearly only added now due to the S-Series Mk3 (I assume?) but it's a nice addition for those who like programming synths via knobs, or M+ users.

    progress is a good thing!!

the NI user community will just need to adapt with change... when it comes knocking

im not one to get sour about change... and i will maintain as much freedom as the current software&hardware provides me with...

if i see value in NI's new shiny toys... ill consider the whole picture...

examples: Polyphonic aftertouch on komplete MK3!! wheres the value in that honestly?? *shrugs... as far as re-inventing the wheel goes with NKS2, i wonder who among us really fell for the hype and new nametag/format LOL seriously... gotta laugh if not giggle at decisions made within the NI camp...

but hey... they are the captains of their own ship!! lets just hope their direction remains true north!! *winks

    onward and upward!

What are you talking about? Loss of Mk1 keyboard support in KK3? Old things die out eventually, the Mk1 is 10 years old, when a device depends on SW that's bound to happen eventually regardless of cause, "tech stack" or just... "It's too old for us to bother at this point".

When Maschine gets a new major version it's likely that some old devices stop being supported, Mk2's, heck maybe the Studio model, I doubt it would happen to the MK3/M+ as those are much newer than S Series Mk1.

I suppose it depends on how people use keyboards. For me I want to be able to put as much expression as possible into my playing and have that recorded and although I can get some expression by using say the mod wheel, tweaking knobs, using velocity or a pedal, having that literally at the tips of my fingers, rather than having to take a hand off the keys, is my preferred option. Much like a guitar player would use bends or a violinist create vibrato with their fingers and bowing techniques. Poly as opposed to channel aftertouch means you can do that on a note by note basis instead of it affecting the whole sound.

i purchased one of those Roli 25 rubbery key instruments some time back... for polyAT giving more control than the mk3... *shrugs

so i suppose i was already covered... hence i saw no value in the mk3... afterall the Roli is better suited to 5 dimensions of expression.. *shrugs

I have a Seaboard too but I find a traditional keyboard with poly AT easier to play, the problem with the seaboard is it’s too mushy under the fingers and there is no real velocity action as it’s hard to separate from pressure

speaking of Roli and the expressiveness that it provides...

heres a glimpse into why i was sold on the Roli rubberised keyboard

    i hear what you're saying....

all that said... the marketing genius's of the Roli Crew to pull in a heavy weight like Marco Parisi to get comfortable with the use of their keyboard was a stroke of Genius!!

the same could be said with the Geoshred app and Jordan Rudess....

something NI could take a leaf from... instead of resting on their laurels *shrugs
