@ozon Practically, is the Maschine+ that will appear on the iPad as a midi destination (or source).

On the M+ itself you just chose the USB Maschine+ port in the Midi IN tab in the sound you want to control (of course after having activated the USB port in the Settings under Midi)

Tons of people use iPads as MIDI controllers, or MIDI devices plugged into their own iPads.

iPads (other tablets and phones too) are fancy like that, modern if you will... they can be both, a host or client, it wouldn't make sense for an iPad to be fixed being one of those 2 options.

If you're looking for technical info I think it's called "USB OTG", good luck reading thru the mess that USB standard is and the fact that what is supposed to be a "standard" is very often not followed by manufacturers at all, remember the whole USB Audio M+ thread? They struggle hard to simple came up with descriptive names or follow a simple color scheme.

I reckon that when using a USB-C to Type B the iPad defaults to being a client, or the app you use triggers it, not sure.

This whole big mess is one of the reasons everything should be true USB-C in this era, with regulatory certification... but the Audio users and industry is very resistant to change.

I use mine with the iPad via a cheap wireless MIDI dongle that plugs into the M+ USB port and it works great.

And I plug the 5-pin MIDI adapters that it comes with into my MK3 or S49 MK2 and all three works wirelessly. 🥳

@LostInFoundation @D-One thank very much for sharing detailed information.

While I was semi aware of the fact that iDevices could switch roles depending on the connected adapter, I didn’t expect the M+ in standalone mode to act as Client and Host simultaneously. In fact I thought the B port to be deactivated in standalone mode.

This is a huge discovery for me which opens a couple if very interesting possibilities in standalone operation.

If you are anything like me, it would be more than a couple 😉

Just a suggestion as an example: the newly released BLEASS Arpeggiator. Finally an arpeggiator that isn’t only “Up, Down, Up and Down” but something really innovative.

BTW: on intro price for only 9.99

    Anything to learn, NI?

@LostInFoundation thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, BLEASS Arpeggiator doesn’t work with the M+ as it doesn’t allow to configure MIDI in/out. Which is quite annoying for a 15€ app.

Kirnu Cream (5€) and Moog Animoog both can communicate with the M+. The setup on the M+ is a bit cumbersome, because it behaves totally weird when recording.

Bleass Arpeggiator is an Au. Open it in any host, tell the host where to send the midi (MASCHINE PLUS) and M+ on which port to receive the midi (USB MAS+).

This is how I’m using it (in Loopy Pro, AUM or any other host).

I suppose you should also be able to use M+ knobs (through the trick of creating macros on computer and transferring them to M+) to control Arpeggiator parameters. Haven’t tried it yet, but now that you made me think about it, it’s surely the next thing I will do ☺️

@LostInFoundation BLEASS Arpeggiator is also a standalone application, but it offers no MIDI configuration for USB just allows to add Bluetooth devices. And there is zero documentation for the standalone app. Disappointing that I have to buy another app to use it.
