If there's enough space in the pitch dimension, I was going to suggest the same as the above... put the robins on different pitches and then just script which note to play when the correct input note arrives.

Yes, you gave me the idea.

@stephen24 , You're right; simplicity should always be the preference.

I'm in the process of building a drum library, and I'm grappling with the challenge of maintaining a reasonable number of groups. It's somewhat disheartening to find that the most popular sampler makes it quite challenging, if not seemingly impossible, to accomplish such a fundamental task.

I'm attempting to understand the methods you've suggested so I can try them out. Being relatively new to KSP, these obstacles are making me contemplate giving up. Kontakt feels a bit outdated, and I believe next-gen libraries that can fully utilize modern RAM capacities might be better suited for a more advanced platform that probably does not exists yet...

Nevertheless, I'll persist. With yours (and the community's) invaluable assistance, I hope to make everything function as intended.

Its a drum library and the pitch dimension better stay simple so electronic drums can be mapped easily.

Your internal mapping and the user's mapping are entirely independent, that's why drum libraries often use the pitch dimension for robins.

I must confess I have been unaware of this aversion to large numbers of groups. I am baffled by it and I suspect that it is entirely spurious.

If you have a large number of samples, you need to organise them so the one you want can be identified quickly. If you have a 3-dimensional warehouse you can quickly find your parcel with the aid of 3 numbers, x y and z. The corresponding co-ordinates in Kontakt are note number, velocity value and Group number. From the software's point of view, those three parameters are pretty much identical, the difference is only in the way they are displayed to the user, and specified in KSP.

If you find switching the display of groups frustrating with that horrible little window, perhaps you haven't tried listing them in the "Expert" tab of the browser. Until someone invents a 3-dimensional screen, I can't think how any alternative software could possibly do this any better.

Don't give up on KSP. It can be tedious and dogmatic but it's extremely useful, and success gives great satisfaction.

Will this method work if I want to have note compatibility with other libraries such as Superior Drummer etc?

Other libraries do not use gaps in the keyboard, all keys are occupied with drum samples.

Maybe I have misunderstood the method? I need to pay more attention to the suggested methods in this thread that's for sure, I will do that.

@stephen24 Kontakt's default round robins grouping presents and other challenges, especially when some velocities have more round robins than others. This can lead to scenarios where continuously triggering a velocity with fewer available round robins results in playing a group without a sample, causing silence. I didn't initially mention this to keep the thread focused.

I've used Reason's NN-XT sampler, which is relatively simple but allows me to create random robins for each velocity layer. This is regardless of whether the number of round robin samples varies for each velocity, and it's just a button click away. Perhaps my familiarity with this feature in NN-XT is why I've been attempting a similar approach in Kontakt.

I'm already making good use of the Group Monitor; it's indeed a great tool.

Your suggestion regarding the naming strings is very interesting, and I'm grateful for it. I will try to create a script out of it!

Thank you for urging me to persevere with KSP. I won't be backing down...

...just prepare for many more questions in the future! :)
