Kontakt 8 Player makes Ableton super slow

I recently added a Kontakt 8 plugin to some of my Ableton sessions. I use Live 12 Suite and "desolate guitars" or "session strings" on the Kontakt Player. As soon as the Kontakt Player is added, it takes at least a minute to save the session, regardless of the amount of changes I made - every time I save it. Also, if more than one track is a Kontakt player, playback and recording falter and it's impossible to have a decent work flow. Is there anyone else with this problem?

Hey there, two things about this issue.

1. There have been reports of problems with or plug-ins (and other ones, not just NI stuff) with the latest Ableton update, 12.1.5, you can check it here, and you'll also find a link to install the previous version:

2. There's an issue being investigated at the moment regarding long saving times with Kontakt 8:

There is no date for a fix yet.

So please try downgrading Ableton and see if it has a positive impact.

Since you're on Mac, please also make sure to give full disk access to Ableton and Kontakt. How to Enable Full Disk Access on macOS

Also try to save your Ableton project on a different location.

Hi there, thanks for the reply and the tips!

I gave full access to Ableton and Kontakt and tried saving on another location. I am actually still using the Ableton 12.1.1 version so that shouldn't be a problem. But I also tried the Kontakt Player (7 and 8) with Ableton Standard 11. Nothing makes a difference.

Is this a problem that only happens with the free Kontakt Player? Do I have to use the full version?

I really need a quick fix, cause it's unfortunately impossible to work like this :(
