saving times taking 3 mins since loading Kontakt 8 (KT-10248)

Is there a known issue with Kontakt 8. Since I loaded it last week , my cubase13 project saving times takes nearly 3 minutes. Is this a known problem? Always taken a few seconds to save projects previously.

I am inclined to remove it from my work.

The indicators right now are that this is VST-related (not AU and AAX). Thanks for all of the info - we are looking into it.

@Pacific So this is only happening in projects where you have Kontakt 8 tracks? Could you zip a small Cubase project where you can reproduce the issue and post it here?

Also getting this. A single instance of Kontakt (about 10 instruments loaded) takes 25-30 seconds to save on an i9 14000. 4 instances is near unusable, especially with DAWs autosaving every x minutes.

Happens in FL studio, Reaper, Studio One.

@blizzrizz Could you reproduce the issue in a small project, using NI libraries, zip it and post it here? So we can check and repro it ourselves?

This is happening to me as well and makes Kontakt 8 basically unusable, so I hope it can be resolved quickly. I save regularly and also have autosaving enabled, and each save on a decently sized project makes FL Studio unresponsive for a minute or more.

This is a really simple repro: I created a new empty project in FL Studio 24.1.2 and added a single Kontakt 8 instance with 10 instruments loaded. Saving this file takes over 10 seconds on my machine and is almost instantaneous with Kontakt 7. Adding one instrument seems to add roughly one second to the save time.

(Attaching a smaller version of that repro project)

It's really easy to recreate - I don't have many NI libraries installed unfortunately to create a project.

Happening on all three of my machines - just loading Kontakt 8 and 10 to 15 patches and saving in FL/Reaper is all it takes to recreate.

Thanks for flagging this. I am not seeing it in my setup so will take it to the team who obviously have more than one at their disposal. In the meantime can you please let us know the OS and the top-line computer spec.

For info, I am on a MacBook Pro M1 Max, Logic Pro (will check the other DAWs on my system next).

Everything I can think relevant -
    - Windows 10 (10.0.19045)
    - FL Studio 24.1 (also happens in latest Reaper 7.12 and all older builds of FL/Reaper, so I don't think it's DAW related)
    - RME Babyface Pro (also happens on RME AOI and Built in soundcard on laptop, so I don't think it's interface related)
    - Kontakt 8.0.0 and 8.01 both have the issue.
    - Saving to internal NVM-e SSD

    Based on experimentation:

    - Happens in VST3 and standalone mode with similar save times (session vs nkm multi),
    - No slowdown when saving 10 'empty' new kontakt patches sesson/multi,
    - Seems linear to how much data is being saved, so loading 10 Spitfire SSO patches and saving is roughly ~14 seconds. Loading 5 Spitfire SSO patches and saving is roughly ~7 seconds. Same applies to saving an instrument with a lot of groups/modulators/etc. compared to saving a light one - the lighter one saves quicker.
    - Also seems to be CPU related in some way. On an i9 14000 it's a 14 second save. On an i9 11000 it's a 22 second save.

I use a few Spitfire plugins like Albion and Hans Zimmer stuff and the new Tutti plugin. Most of them have pretty large sample bases so they will take a bit of time to load, but nothing like what you're experiencing. I'm also on Windows 10 using Ableton and I will always get an initial loading delay with large and/or multiple libraries, but that's just the first time loading them. However this is greatly exacerbated if you're using Windows Defender's Virus and Threat protection. I just turn that off and I get pretty reasonable load times. Obviously there are other factors such as SSD's versus HDD, but that's certainly one thing you can have some control over.

We're talking about the save time (time it takes to save your DAW project or a multi) in this thread, not the load time. The load time seems fine in Kontakt 8 from my limited use of it so far.

Windows Defender is disabled on all my machines, so it's not that. Saving session to a NVMe SSD (with samples on a NVMe SSD). Also only affects Kontakt 8 (8.0.0 and 8.0.1 tried). Kontakt 7.x appear to save just fine, almost instantaneously.

Yeah that is a different animal. My save times are way less than even 10 seconds for bigger projects on Kontakt 8 or Komplete Kontrol, but I'm not using multis and am on Ableton Live. But my recording sessions are on a dedicated SSD drive which may make a difference. Samples are spread out amongst other SSD's and my system NVME drives only have system stuff and paging allocations.

Just to confirm, this is happening for me too on Cubase 13 Pro, Windows 11, AMD Ryzen 7 5800H, Motu M2 interface, latest Kontakt 8 version

CAn you provide a small project where you can reproduce the issue? Thanks in advance.

    Hi everyone,
I'm having similar issues and may have a theory :

If you experience longer saving times, or loading times, or anything similar where things take longer than expected, try to check if the problematic Kontakt instances have been migrated from previous Kontakt versions. If this is the case, try rebuilding those instances from scratch in Kontakt 8 by manually loading the patches from the Kontakt new browser, and see if it makes a difference. In my case it does, a big one!

I'm describing my issues with a Cubase template in this thread, but I think both cases might be connected.
