So I've finally built my live Dawless rig for live and recording ..I need some help.

Set up is above running Ableton link
My music is DnB with live vocals over the top with FX ( possible looper- loopy pro on ipad )- or please give thoughts on a way to do this with Maschine in a live envonment

Maschine plus is drums / MK3 on Mac my synth parts / plug in etc

I'm stumped at right way to go about recording live jams ( these could be up to 60 mins live sets ) or sometimes just one song

I'm thinking cheap mixer with pre fade to hear the other Maschine to help queing whilst whilst playing live - but this will have no seperate stems but could record stereo into my Zoom H4N recorder ( limited ability to tweak afterwards )

Or something like the new zoom L6 to record some stems to mix later / then I can send send remix stems to other producers but not sure it will work for 2 seperate maschines or have enough stems

Or is there a way to route the output of one maschine into the other? and record internally on one- can I get any stems from this way from both / either?

I'm a little confused when it comes to digital mixing as I was a producer in the 90's with hardwired cables..

To Note other equiptment lying around that could help listed here
Logic
Zoom H4n Recorder listed above
Traktor s2 Mk4
ipad ( decent spec )
Two Scarlett 2i2 audio units - redundant since I got the Macshines with built in Audio Interface

Priority is the live set up with Vocals but being able to record these ( even as group stems would be good ) ..aim is to keep of the computer as much as possible

Thanks in advance

hi, i replied to your recent comment on reddit

given that you have a M1 Mac, i would personally use that…

if you were to consider recording, on lets say a hardware device such as a External digital mixer for multi-track recording… thats going to cost you an arm & a leg, and then you'll need to have all the cables etc etc, theres nothing worse in my mind to create unnecessary methods to capture audio channels

simplify the process, and use your m1 Mac (keep things simple & minimal!!)

any external equipment you need to route into the mac… you WILL need X amount of inputs in order to route into the Mac, theres no way around this aspect

the other peice of the puzzle is you require a DAW in order to record all your channels.

your choice of DAW will be critical in making everything seamless…

i believe Reaper is the best DAW(opinion)… as the routing capabilities it has are very extensive, this makes recording a relative simple process once you figure out routing, the key with Reaper is you can build as many loopback(virtual) audio channels as you need (up to 512), and then you can route all your audio channels from one project in realtime and record everything in a separate project

i did this video as a means of showing that Maschine can be recorded realtime, with all the FX printed to the audio…

alternatively you can download Blackhole64 as a method of getting virtual audio channels

i have no knowledge of Logic, but there is probably a way to record as you utilise everything(im guessing)

but i did a demo of how this could be done… given that you also have x2 maschine Jams, programming them in midi mode to make use of the touchstrips levels & any means of tracking will be useful in the long run

concerning the pre-cueing of sounds, this can be quite tricky to explain

but i had built myself a routing matrix in Reaper, which is handled by the x2 Maschine Jams i have

    basically the idea behind it….

every application is routed to virtual audio channels, as an example lets say…

traktor has 4 decks running, that requires 4 stereo pairs, so 4 stereo channels are needed, they will be routed into lets say

    deck 1 Blackhole 10+11 ,

    deck 2 Blackhole 12+13,

    deck 3 Blackhole 14+15

    deck 4 Blackhole 16+17

so in Reaper, Traktor-comes through the inputs on the corresponding BH channels on my assigned tracks

The output in reaper however, i will send to 1 of my 2 outs

either the main out which is on channel 65+66

or my headphones channel which is on 67+68

now becos you have 4tracks incoming they each require toggle button necessary to go between the main out & the earphones…

now for every other application that you bring in and the channels you require, this becomes a routing nightmare, if a DAW is unable to create a Matrix, with necessary toggles for any incoming audio,

but again i dont know how this might be done in Logic…. but i have setup a routing matrix in Reaper, to the extent, im dealing with up to 256 tracks each with a single looped sample sitting in my Reaper template, while also running x4 instances of maschineVST, running Remixlive, alongside virtualDJfree & DJ pro algoriddim… at which point a press of a midi button press on the Maschine Jam(midi mode) toggles between headphones or Main-out…

edit: i should mention i mainly operate Reaper/maschine/remixlive/vdjfree/djpro with just the 2 maschine Jams, and mapped the main aspects(triggering/volumes/fx) of the external applications using midi mode on the maschine Jam, so as to keep hardware @ a minimum

i cannot be bothered with bulky DJcontrollers, hence why i've gone the route of midi mapping controls onto the Maschine Jams!
