If you sort a playlist by column (like genre, bpm etc.) the numbers column (if visible) gets jumbled. If you consolidate the playlist, the numbers will line up with the last sorting.

Just like safe collection (for the collection)… consolidate is for the playlist?

Click on a playlist column header, like BPM or KEY. You will see it sort the playlist. There is a column that displays the original position of the tracks by number (#). This numbering will get jumbled by the sorting.

If you now cosolidate the playlist, the numbers (#) will then correspond to the sorting order you caused by column.

By hand. No automatic way to do this. You could sort by import date or last played date and then consolidate. Sadly there is no added-to-playlist date column. Check out which columns can be added and used by right clicking on any column header.

What do you mean? If work on it you mean add tracks and move them around, just press '#'.

Lets say you have 2 songs that are in alphabetical order and numbering. The first one starts with an A, the second with a B The first has #1, the second has #2.

    • #1, A
    • #2, B

Now you sort by column BPM, which makes '#2, B' jump to first line, and '#1, A' to the second line.

    • #2, B
    • #1, A

Now you consolidate, which makes the # content correspond to the actual sequence, so '#2,B' turns into '#1, B'

    • #1, B
    • #2, A

If you now press sort by '#', you can freely move around the tracks again.

Best you make an experimental playlist and … experiment. You'll see how it works.

It's not important. Play around with it if you really want to know how the playlist works. Unless you have problems with using playlists and having the tracks in the sequence you want, don't bother.

It saves the playlists order in what you have it sorted to right now.
