Running out of hope - latency with S61 mk3, ableton live 11 and PC.
So -
- I recently got the S61 Mk3 with ableton live 11. My history goes back to 1990s Digital Performer. I could spend hours throwing down tracks back then. Now….. I need a PHD to just get things to connect. Now my issue is latency. No matter whether using the Ableton standard sounds or NI VSTs there's a huge lag between key press and hearing the sound.
- My system: Kontrol S61 Mk3, Komplete audio 6 (older model). Win 11, 16gig RAM 2THD.
- I've tried many things to fix the issue - one problem, Mac Ableton is very different from Windows.
- There are millions of videos about ableton / S61 for Mac. None for Windows.
- I just can't kill the 1/2 second latency.
- Should I just throw in the towel and go Mac?
- Arghhh…. I miss my reel to reel 1/2" 8 track.
Thank you!

If you have a delay that large, sounds to me like you are likely not running ASIO drivers and instead, using the WDM (shared) drivers. Can you confirm (screenshot) if you are using ASIO low latency drivers with your audio interface?

You need to update your sound card, the komplete audio 6 (mk1 presumably) hasn't been updated since 2018 so it's long past it's best. You can get an Audient Evo 4 for around a hundred quid or something similar and it will work perfectly well and is simple to use and will save you banging your head against the wall trying to get the old one working lol

I am using S61 MK3 with Live 12 on Windows 11 and don't have a lag issue. I suggest putting a "MIDI Monitor" Live device before your chosen VST and watching its GUI while you strike some notes. If the notes light instantly (as they should), I think you can assume that the MK3 is not at issue. More likely something in the audio chain as @geiger167 suggested.

Thank you for the answers - for future readers, I needed to select the ASIO drivers - duh - in preferences…
That 100% solved it!
Much appreciated!
