My final post on this subject: the board did not respond (and in fact was behaving as it originally did: the Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) returned... which probably speaks to corrupted on-board files).

The board has been boxed and dropped off at the UPS Store this morning. Will try with board #3 next week. sigh

Thanks to all offering assistance: hopefully others can benefit down the line. Go make some music.

TL;DR but any any point did you connect the keyboard to a proper USB-C port?

    Merci !

Can I ask you which USB-C power supply you bought to solve this low power issue? I'm in the same boat and the 18w I just bought isn't cutting it. Seems weird that a mere 2 watt difference would be enough to cause the same issue but I'm willing to try a higher power charger. That NI doesn't just include a power adapter is kind of unforgivable. Thank you.

My own recommendations (based solely on feedback here) is a 20W USB-C PSU capable of USB-C PD (USB-C PD definintion). The USB-C PD ready might be important, at least as a tell of capability.

If your PSU is USB-C PD capable then your problem could be that the cable either does not support power transfer or is not of a good enough quality ! The cable used for the USB-C power delivery must capable of PD and the data port USB-C cable must be capable of at least data transfer ! More users have over time have problems because of too poor cables or cables that just didn't work with the port. For data at least then a HQ cable to recommend appear to have been a passive Thunderbolt 4 cable but other good quality USB-C cables has been seen work (including one that some one had with their phone) !

The picture on the USB-C PD definition page of port capability will also show that what a port is capable off entirely depends on the generation of USB that it supports. And the same goes for cables which might meet one standard and not another (ref. : USB port capabilities as per standard followed : manhattanproducts.eu )

I purchased a 25W Samsung USB-C power adapter and it solved the problem. Thank you.

Why on earth wasn't the S series MK3 keyboards designed for and come with a proprietary power supply? I'm no expert but even so I could have predicted the outcome of so many customers having problems powering them using this solution. Just seems daft to me.

Although I would agree these problems could have been easily avoided with a provided power supply, but I wasn't surprised it didn't come with one as I'd done a lot of YouTube research on the keyboard before buying it so I was prepared.

I guess the thought was, this isn't really a proprietary power supply as they're widely available at very low prices as they're used on most laptops these days. In fact I had a laptop that I'd retired and just used it's power supply and all worked well. They claimed there are USB configurations that provide the adequate power, but I've never seen or heard of one. But it's an easy, cheap remedy if you know about it.
