Is this secondhand seller trying to scam me?

I'm new to the computer recording space and am looking at purchasing a S61 controller secondhand.

From what I can tell the seller is supposed to provide a transfer license in order for me to receive any software associated with the hardware I might buy.

But I have a seller trying to tell me a different story, see attached image.

Is this person right, or are they trying to scam me?

If we're talking about the S61 MK2, then yes he is right. Check the link @Monochrome just shared.

Thank you @Matt_NI . I understand what is in the article, but my question is what happens if the seller does not provide a transfer ID?

Can I still download the software associated with the device if the seller will not provide a transfer ID?

You still need the Transfer ID but in reality even if this was not happening and we're talking about a MK2 unit, the support team could help you get what you need.

The Transfer ID would essentially just have the hardware serial tied to it so the seller can keep his software and you'll get new serials with the hardware registration.
