Fix for firmware update on Mac M4
I found the fix. By leaving the kontrol S on and there usb c plugged in, reboot the apple computer, then proceed with the firmware update. I believe apple has an issue with loading drivers without a device being connected. At least computers with an M4 chip. I had this issue with my apogee audio interface.

AMIRI Library isn't loading into KK after rescan and resetting database file but it's on the drive
