Where is the pattern editor for the pattern player??

I'm running windows traktor pro plus 3.9
I have been using the pattern player just fine but i don't see the pattern editor that I've see in screenshots online. I can only select the pattern bank and sound. (see upper left corner)
in the user guide and online it looks like this:
How do I get this to work?

Under Preferences➔Effects you need to switch from 4 FX Units to 2 FX Units.

That is correct. Otherwise a controller such as F1 can edit all steps in all 4 FX Units.
