    Hi Zeddd ,

Thank you for the kind optimistic words. Yes , since some of the inclusions are things that I would really like to get then it's the 'no longer included' experience that I think is a high risk , especially since I will most likely not have the money to upgrade to (what I would like) Collectors Edition in any near future 😒

Cremona Quartet has never been part of Ultimate, but always of Collectors edition (which in version 13 was called Ultimate Collectors Edition and in 14 just Collectors Edition).

Ultimate was always bundled “only” with Stradivari Violin.

So…you didn’t “lose” anything and nothing got “discontinued”

    LostinFoundation,

Thanks for the clarifications! Silly me, I had completely forgotten that the Stradivari Violin was a member of the Cremona Quartet! So I actually do have PART of the quartet now. That's cool.

Since I originally discovered the Cremona Quartet 3 years ago and thought it was so fantastic from the demos, I have collected a few different solo string collections, and I certainly don't feel like I am lacking in some great sounding string options.

But now I'll look forward to comparing the Stradivari Violin to some of my other acquisitions to see how it will play with the others. Glad you chimed in!

Maybe some year I will upgrade to the Collector's Edition, but I'll wait until my computer and OS is a lot more up to date, and loaded with sizeable SSD drives!

If you are interested, at the time they also made a mini documentary (don’t worry, it’s just 10 min ☺️) about how the project came to life (they practically closed the city around the auditorium to make the sampling sessions)

I’ve been on different occasions at the Museo del Violino in Cremona and the air you breathe there makes you understand why this project was a little more special than others.

And also the history and “life anecdotes” around Stradivari’s instruments make them specials. Although if we want to take this in consideration, NI chose the wrong violin to sample. Even if the Vesuvius has its own history and life, surely the winner in this area is “Il Nero” (The Black). It is called like this because one of its previous owners during 18th century, the very famous violinist Jean-Marie Leclair, stabbed to death at his back in his house in Paris, reached the violin to hold his beloved instrument one last time in his hands. The body was discovered several days after and his hand holding the violin in one last love hug left a dark stain on the violin which, even after various attempts of restoration, is still visible nowadays, as a signature of his real and best owner

One last suggestion from a Collectors owner: it is really interesting only in 3 cases:

    1. If you compose for scores (movies, documentaries,…)
    2. If you are really interested in all the expansions
    3. If you are a completionist and you want to have ALL NI products

The “small” price difference (specially for updates/upgrades and specially during SoS) makes it really appealing and interesting anyway, since the amount of extra products you’ll get (mainly expansions). But if you don’t fall in one of the 3 previous categories, with Ultimate you are more than covered for all your needs 😉
