Update problem

Hi - I have 16 available updates - when I try to update them, they all fail, with the error message saying that it was not possible to uninstall the previous version.

The message refers to the knowledge base, describing the procedure for removing the prior registry keys before reinstalling, but I don't want to do this 16 times!

Any suggestions?

Thanks, CSP

Many thanks for your quick reply.

Problem solved, though it did take a long time, because, once I'd deleted the registry files, I couldn't just "reinstall" from the update page, but I had to go back to the product list and do a fresh install.

Anyway, it's all done, so thank you!

Following this article, even doing it 16 times would be fast when using our regtool: Fixing Software Update Installation Issues (Windows)

If even after doing this you still have issues with updates and Native Access you should get in touch with our specialists here: http://bit.ly/NIsupport_install

I've had this problem for the last few update cycles. The NI Uninstall RegTool 64 generally works... but there is a update to Action Strings that I just can't crack. The NI Uninstall tool doesn't see it. I've uninstalled it using Windows uninstall program. Repeated attempts to install using Native Access fail.

@Jeremy_NI I'm here with the same issues. WHY is this even necessary, though? I have never seen any other software from any company have this issue (failing to uninstall a previous version). I always assumed other software just overwrote the previous version, replacing the files, not technically uninstalling one then installing the other. If I'm wrong, fair enough, but even then, WHY is NA having such issues with what should be a simple task? Is it a permissions thing? Does Native Access not have the rights, admin or other, to uninstall the previous software?

Is it a switchover thing with NA2? Once I tweak the reg keys or whatever and it updates the apps, will that definitely solve the problem for me going forward? If not, you may need to point me in the direction of where to download individual .exe files, because I would rather check for updates manually, and download an exe to install, than have to go in and tweak my registry every few weeks (or download and install another tool JUST to do so).

This should not be necessary. And if you have a real, non-corporate fluff explanation as to why it is, that would be much appreciated.

@Danatello I'm not sure what you mean here. If you have regular issues with updates, then you should contact our support about it so they can find why this is affecting you, this is not expected behaviour. You can get in touch here: http://bit.ly/NIsupport_install
