Can't drag and drop/import in sounds from PC files directly to MASCHINE 3

I've been using MASCHINE 3 for a while now and wasn't having technical issues that reopening or doing a reinstallation couldn't solve, lately i haven't been able to drag and drop (import in) sounds from my pc folders into pads unless it's through the libraries, which also requires me to rescan every time I add in new samples to my files and makes it just more inconvenient. I've tried reinstalling, repair files, restarting pc and following the support page advice for permission issues - Always run a Program as an Administrator, but it it still occurs…

Does anyone else experience this is Native instruments aware of this?

Appreciate any advice or support (:

Operating System and Hardware -
Windows 11 64 bit
MASCHINE Version 3.2.0
Maschine Mikro MK3

In this case, to resolve this issue, you need to log in to the Windows session with an administrator account.

There is another person over here that apparently is experiencing the same issue. So I guess that my Drag and drop test will not help much ..

@D-One , is this a problem that you are experiencing or do you have any advice to give ?

    P.S.

I see that both you and the other user are using Windows and I notice that you are having this Windows backup Nag shown in top of your browser. Have you tried opening the files through first select drive in browser then actual disk directory and then drag and drop from there , rather than using the Windows short cut link to drive. It appears to me as if it could have been locked somehow by the backup nag ?

Are you by any chance trying to drag and drop from folders that are backed up to M.S. One drive ?

Try copying files to another place on the computer that are not encompassed by the M.S. backup and then try to drag and drop from there.

@adonjon Why are you running Maschine as an admin user? It's generally not necessary to run any DAW as an admin. Running as a regular user here lets me drop samples onto pads. If I run it as admin dropping samples isn't available, I just get the "stop" icon.

I can confirm that I get the stop icon too if I run Maschine 3 as an Admin and then Drag and Drop where as that I can drag and drop when running Maschine standard as user that is logged as an Admin.

@Jeremy_NI , sounds as something that N.I. should look into.

Nope it's nothing to do with NI, it's a restriction to do with Windows security.

That 'restriction' is rather easily circumvented.

To be able to use Drag and Drop while also running Maschine 3 using Run as an Admin then just download and install a third party file manager such as FreeCommander XE (I tested using that) , and then after having used Run as an Admin to start Maschine 3 then also use the same Run as an Admin to start the file manager. Then you should be able to drag and drop using that file manager.

Yep that's because your file manager runs as admin, Maschine runs as admin and you can drag drop between them.

That's kinda missing the point though. The whole point of the admin/non-admin is security so why would you want to blow a hole in that by running things as admin? It's very rarely required unless you're installing software.

No, sorry. I am on macOS, where there are specific privacy permissions to allow or disallow programs from accessing content on any folder or drive. Things are different on Windows.

Well Windows or PC, this kind of issues is almost always due to permission issues on one's system. We usually invite users to run as admin as a solution to these permission issues and to override them. @PoorFellow Are you saying that this has the opposite effect?

Yes, if you start Maschine 3 in Windows by using 'Run as an Admin' then that will actually hinder one from being able to use drag and drop from using a file manager such as Windows Explorer unless that the file manager itself has also been started using same 'Run as an Admin'. And 'Run as an Admin' can only be done using third party file managers since Windows Explorer does not immediately allow that. Because of Windows security then it's a complex issue with respect to Windows Explorer itself. I thought that at least then N.I. support ought to be made aware that Windows (10/11 ???) works this way with respect to Drag and drop into apps that has been started using 'Run as an Admin'.

    P.S. Confirmed by user here.
