ATTN: Analog Dreams Users - New Update requires Kontakt 8

Just noticed this come down via Native Access:
If you are still settled into Kontakt 7 - and have not made a move to K8 yet - if you mistakenly click Update - you will get the good ole - "your version of Kontakt is too old".
Stay frosty when heading into Native Access peeps.

Thanks for the heads up, I won't be updating anytime soon.

Is it really a problem, as you can download 8 Player for free?

The only new in this update is the addition of Multi instruments (just 10 megabytes).
Multis of course requires Kontakt 8. So, if you are not in Kontakt 8 you really don't need this update. In case you are in Kontakt 7 and accidentally updated your Analog Dreams and have some issues, do this:
- Delete the Multi sub-folder from your main Analog Dreams folder.
- Go at C:\Users\Public\Documents\Native Instruments\installed_products and use a text editor to edit the Analog Dreams.json file. Change the "ContentVersion":"2.2.1" value, to 2.1.2
- Go to the registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Native Instruments\Analog Dreams and do the same. Double-click the "ContentVersion" key and change the value as above (from 2.2.1 to 2.1.2)
…or, update to Kontakt 8… 😊
Note: I did not tested that, since I'm in Kontakt 8, but it should work.
1 - Delete the Multi sub-folder from your main Analog Dreams folder.

Not a problem - until you try to load Kontakt into your KK 2.9.6 or MKII and watch Kontakt 8 try to take over everything. Or you have a truck load of old projects and K8 takes priority and so on and so on.
Yes - it's a problem. :)

Question - some interesting edits here - that I am hoping I might be able to use. What exactly does this do - for Analog Dreams specifically - if one has already updated (I have not)?
I am trying to determine if edits like these would turn off the little "1" indicators that show up beside Updates in the NA interface.
I REALLY want to turn off the "1" for Komplete Kontrol 3 - which I do not want on the system at this time and now the same for Analog Dreams.
Appreciate any insight.

Most probably, those "!" indicators will remain. I can't say for sure, because i always update.
But NA is "looking" mostly on those places (registry and installed products) to get info.
It is really simple to do it and see for your self, then undo it, if not works for you. Just change 2 values, forth and back (if needed). :-)
The above are for libraries/expansions mostly. KK3 will probably be more tricky.

Took a look at the Komplete Kontrol .json - and it has no version info at all. So that one is a bit odd.
And yes - I am looking for a way to tell NA that I am content with my "current" version X of a product and am not interested in newer updates - especially ones that would break the Kontakt version.

Yes of course it's a problem, open up a previous project which has K7 and Analog Dreams instances, and it will fail to load. That's incredibly poor, they need to rectify this or it will put NI on a mental blacklist of plugins which are unsafe to leave instantiated on past projects.
At which point it makes me reluctant to keep putting money into the eco system. It's pulling the rug from our feet, compromising our own content, and done without any kind of warning or notification of it occuring.
Thanks for the heads up OP.

Have NI provided a link for a Kontakt 7-compatible installer for Analog Dreams?
I'm using Kontakt 7 and am installing software on a new PC. I have old projects using Analog Dreams, but as far as I can find, the only way to install Analog Dreams is through Native Access, which will install the version that requires Kontakt 8.
So how can I open these old projects? I guess I should contact NI Support and ask for an old installer? Updating Analog Dreams to require a new version of Kontakt is one thing, but it seems crazy that they wouldn't think I might need to open up a project from up-to-date software I used less than a year ago.

This is not correct.
It does not actually "require" Kontakt 8.
A better way to describe it is: "it is fully working with Kontakt 8".
Mutlis will not work (since they need Kontakt 8) but all the standard instruments will work fine with Kontak7 too.
So, just ignore the Multis, or even better (if you do not have plans to update to Kontakt 8), delete the Multi sub-folder from your main Analog Dreams folder.

I'm just going by what the release notes say. So you're saying that my old projects with Kontakt 7 and Analog Dreams loaded will load up just fine? And I can still use Analog Dreams in Kontakt 7 without issue? Because the poster above you says it will fail to load.

but as far as I can find, the only way to install Analog Dreams is through Native Access
You can find Analog Dreams here , I just don't know if there is an in-between version also that you could have been using : Previous versions of recently updated Kontakt libraries / compatibility withK6 older libraries
.

Yes, this is exactly what i am saying, since i have both Kontakt 7 & 8 and i have test this.
Only the Multi-instruments (which are the actual new addition) will not work.
Note: It is working fine in stand alone mode, however i do not have a DAW project with Analog Dreams to test its behavior inside a DAW.

Thank you! That gives me a bit of confidence that it should work ok (I can't see why it wouldn't work in a DAW if it works stand-alone).
