I love it when devs or any sort of engineer presents a product, especially those with not-so-great speaking or social interaction skills, the wackier the better. I prefer this over a marketing/PR guy any day.

"wannabe-daw-in-a-beatbox" Is a great term, hahah I am stealing that and adding to my vocabulary.

It would be better if they created the probability of notes in Machine 3! It is in all sequencers, the probability of notes is even in mobile applications, but not in Machines. It is strange that for so many years they have not implemented this, the very concept of S&H is absent in the Machine ecosystem and it is sad that it was brought to MPS a long time ago. Moreover, there were thousands of discussions and topics on this topic. It seems that the N.I. team decided to simply ignore this constant (((

well I don’t get totally the idea of having midi programming tools on a groovebox made for live playing.

Ableton notes doesn’t have probability for example and it’s a mobile app, so NI is not alone in this direction.

…but both Ableton Move and Push do, and they're standalone hardware products like Maschine+

Akai's MPCs also have it. All the aforementioned devices are "made for live playing".

Each person's point of view is different and valuable, but the design and layout of Maschine makes me think that it must be very tedious to program step by step. That's why I think it was originally designed for live play.

And I think it's better for NI to keep a coherent direction, which implies making choices, rather than trying to implement a whole bunch of different functions in the wrong way. (did someone said "Stems" ? 😅😁).

Of course, this is just my humble opinion: there are as many uses for Maschine as there are users.

Very interesting because I also have the MPC and I find it to be much more hybrid in its approach between live playing and programming. Due to the touchscreen, which Maschine doesn't have.

I believe a lot of programming made on the MPC would be a nightmare on Maschine.

Well, you're not wrong, it's really just a matter of workflow, perspective, and the genre/culture you're into. Some people go towards a full live-instrument approach (like finger drumming) while most just make "Programmed Beats". High up NI reps always stated that Maschine's main goal is not 'Live Performance', but of course, one can use it as such.

Maschine has a step sequencer, which is probably the most obvious programming example, but tools such as quantize, swing, nudging, and nearly everything related to Patterns, Sections, Song Mode, etc… fall into music programming even tho the first user input recorded was by taping Pads with your hands.

Stems have been the latest hot topic for beatmakers who use sampling a lot, it was an undeniably top request, and beatmakers are probably by far the biggest % of Maschine users.

If it should be a priority or not is, of course, highly debatable but IMO a company should cater to it's users top requests as best they can unless they're willing to lose them in an attempt to reach a new audience, which can backfire eventually.

I've just realized that I wasn't paying attention to the fact that we were talking about Maschine and not only Maschine+ !
Yes for Maschine with a computer and a mouse/keyboard, more advanced midi tools make totally sense.
