Maschine 3 with older Mac ?

But…since you talk about the “spirit of this original thread”… OP was arguing about what Native Instruments does (specially opposed to other companies who seem to be able to allow compatibility with older OSes), not what Apple does…
Other companies which have to deal with the exact same Apple behaviors. And they deal with it differently (more in favor of users)
So… I know everyone sees things from his point of view… but… I feel like I’m sticking to the thread…
As I’m not the one saying others opinions are not making things true or perceiving my own reality as “the only reality” and the one everyone else must accept (even if that reality is in some way confuted exactly by the fact that other companies manage to do what is presented as “not the reality”).
You expressed your reality, I expressed mine, supported by what even OP said and by things that are in facts happening in the real world. I believe in what I see, and what I see is that if others do it, NI could too.
That said… we both know each others opinions… and we expressed them once again here. Therefore… I think I’ve said enough

I agree - but I do not think this thread would even exist were it not for an "older Mac" being in it.
NI Support is based on Apple Support. Other vendors can certainly do their thing. The OP is free to seek out those other vendors as required if the grass is greener over there.
But arguing NIs support policy vs other vendors is really not going to change anything.

Even on this we don’t agree:
NOT arguing NI policy is really not going to change anything.
Probably also arguing it will lead to the same conclusion, but at least there is this “probably”. And at least they will see not everyone is prone to accept everything.
Is the old saying…: By fighting a battle, you could lose. By not fighting it, you’ll lose certainly

It’s gonna be difficult, with people who should have our own interests fighting for the other side…
As long as the majority accept things because “they are what they are”… (or because at the moment they are lucky enough to not be affected by them), progress is hard to obtain.
One thing they have really been good at is making people think that the elite is the one deciding… while the opposite is true: the majority, if willing, can make the elite follow their needs. You can be the richest man in the world (forgetting you are the richest because the people gave you their money), pointing at Mars… but if the humble people will stop buying your stuff… you’ll change your attitude…
Luckily, ”difficult” and “hard” are not concepts that scare me. Nor is “failing”Usually I tend to follow what I perceive as “right”

Sorry to disappoint but I am just another engaged user and quite frankly - I only have time to tend to my own interests.
I enjoy my NI stuff and I my best to try to help users try to get the most out of theirs.
But busting a vendor (any vendor) - seemingly daily - just because of some perceived notion they are out there to keep me down - makes no sense and is not the best use of my time.If I do not like a product or a company or a policy of theirs that I might disagree with - and it affects me or my work in any negative way - I simply discard said item and move onto the next.
Life is too short to waste time waging unwinnable battles.
I prefer to channel my energy into my work whenever possible.

That’s why I always find strange how much time you use - seemingly daily - to try to convince others how outdated they are, how they must follow the imposed computer/hardware/software world rules, how companies are right in denying us to use the stuff we paid for.
Yes, you help others a lot. But on this argument you use a lot of your precious time just to prove how wrong others are (even when they are not)
I’m happy that you are so lucky to have enough money to constantly discard stuff you bought (softwares, computers,…). Some others are not. And some ulterior others simply don’t like to waste things and/or being forced to buy new products when they already have bought others before that are still ok for them (simply because a company decide that the same product that was working before with e.g. Kontakt 6 now requires Kontakt 8… and with the simple addition of “Performance stabilities”… or that a piano must be substituted with another piano just because they find ways to block you from authorizing the one you already own on the system that was making it perfectly working before).
Sorry…but…yeah… I find it strange…As you say yourself… you only have time to tend to your own interests… I’m trying to understand what is the interest that makes you use all this time on this argument

You paint a rather grim picture of Apple support, so I would like to point out macOS Ventura (the oldest 'supported' version of macOS) currently support Macs introduced in 2017 and discontinued in 2019 (https://everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/specs/macbook-pro-core-i5-2.3-13-mid-2017-retina-display-no-touch-bar-specs.html) , so that's 6 years of support from the time of discontinuing their hardware: https://support.apple.com/en-us/102861
Apple has been pretty consistent with supporting hardware for this amount of time over the years.
Additionally, they allow you to download and install versions of macOS up to High Sierra (and even older with a little bit more effort), so it's not like they dump users of older hardware as soon as the official software support ends: https://support.apple.com/en-us/1026620 -
That's what I am doing. I stopped buying NI products because of their policies. But I do would like them to understand why, so that's why I am sharing my views, in case they might read along.
Their lacklustre treatment of Maschine and the way the have handled some of my favourite software synths (Super8, Reaktor, Massive X), have made me lose trust in NI to the extend I decided to put my money elsewhere.
I still use what I have from them, and the quality of these products is a testament to the powerhouse NI once was, but not anymore (even the late Massive X is in my view an under appreciated ‘diamond in the rough’ that is one of the best software synths IMHO — if you can overcome the half-baked UI and UX implementations).
As another side note, I currently run macOS Sonoma, so I have no issues with supported macOS versions at this moment. However, up till recently I ran Big Sur, because of a specific software issue in macOS that has only been resolved in Sonoma. That's when I was really confronted with the limited software support cycle of NI, and I lost my trust in them completely.
Together with the endless examples of neglected products that deserve much better, I figured I can't rely on their products for music production. I wish NI the best, but they have to radically change course if they want to earn back my trust and invest in their products again in the future.0 -

Glad you finally made a decision and did what is best for your personal workflow.
Good luck and continued success.
