"Get the Latest Update" message on S** MK3

I recently did an "update All" on Native Access. Seemed to go fine but ever since then my S88 MK3 has been asking me to download the the latest update {which is 3.4.1 for KK and 1.8.7 for firmware). The message does not say if software or firmware needs updating. Either way both are up-to-date according to Native Access and the firmware version is correct on the info screen of the keyboard.. There is no clickable option other than"Skip" which gets rid of the message but breaks the connection to the daw software such that I then have to close the song that was opened and then reopen it. Since I already "skipped' the message it then works absolutely fine. But there is something wrong with the keyboard constantly prompting on start up for a new update when it is fully up-to-date already.

Thoughts on how to fix? Anyone else seeing this problem?

Brian

I'm wondering if it's really the Hardware Connection Services in Native Access that needs to be updated which should be version 1.9.4 for the current version of firmware on the S88 MK3.

Thanks for replies. I am on Sonoma. HardwareConnectionService is installed 1.9.4 which is up-to-date. HCS and all NI apps have full disc access.

In troubleshooting thus far, I can say that both Komplete Kontrol and Kontact8 work fine in stand alone mode.

The problem only occurs when using Studio One 7. SO7 is the only DAW i have installed so cannot test with anything else.

The problem: When in in SO7, if I check "General" info it shows Agent version 1.9.4 (R13) (which I believe refers to the HardwareConnectionService app and is the current version) and 1.8.7 (R8). If I load KK or K8 onto a track the instrument loads correctly in the DAW and I can browse instruments and presets as well as edit any parameters from the UI on the computer screen but the mk3 screen just shows Default Midi Template. If I hit the DAW button it does correctly show the daw channel and channel names.

My next step is probably to uninstall the HardwareConnectionService and then reinstall or see if I can roll back to the prior version. I have tried reinstalling it from Access but it does't make any diff. I really dread this step because uninstalling anything NI is always a nightmare.

The keyboard is telling you that you need to update the firmware of the keyboard itself.

The message on the screen includes the necessary URL that you should use to obtain the firmware.

As you've noted: the firmware you currently have installed is v1.8.7. This is out of date - the software now works with v.1.9.x.

The steps to resolve would be as follows:

    1. Go to the URL provided
    2. Download the latest firmware
    3. Install the latest firmware

You can also Skip the message at anytime by pressing the button in the top right, although you may not have access to all features without the latest versions.

    Hey Matt,

Thanks for responding so quickly on a saturday no less!

Your suggestion to update the firmware was correct and now everything is functioning correctly.

BUT, I gotta say I am a bit pissed that I have wasted many hours on this because the NI website DOES NOT HAVE THE CORRECT FIRMARE UPDATER LISTED. It shows the current updater package as 3.24 and firmware as 1.8.7. See the attached image.

The screen on the S88 gives a different URL at ni.de. It never occurred to me that it would reference a different site or that the website one reaches from the US would havevout of date links.

One other thing since you mentioned it. You cannot skip the message in Studio One. It just goes to Default Midi Template once you hit skip and then you are toast.

You can "skip" in the stand alones, just not in a host like Studio One.

Sorry for the hassle you were experiencing. I had noticed your posts, but it just didn't occur to me that your problem was this precise thing; your original wording made me think that you were experiencing some kind of a bunged up loop from a logic error, and not that you just needed to apply the firmware update.

If it's any consolation, however; I and some others here will remember your situation in case it comes up with somebody else in the future. So your pain may be able to help some of us help others. Thank you for your patience, and thank you to @Matthew_NI for seeing through the jumble. 😊

As B4Time wrote then the N.I. site indeed does list updater 3.24 with firmware 1.87 as being the latest .

The screen on the S88 gives a different URL

The screen on the S88 told you where to get the required firmware.

Always use that instruction, and not firmware sourced from elsewhere, as websites can be out of date or cached. I think the web team is updating that soon, but yeah, always trust the keyboard's instruction.

Time consuming lesson learned. But it isn't like I sourced it from "elsewhere". I sourced from your own website that had (still has??) the wrong firmware available for download.

Also, you might consider that the splash screen on the keyboard should specify the what correct firmware version actually is and what is currently installed.

We'll update the drivers page to have the latest version of the firmware updater available. Until then, and as indicated by the keyboard's message, this is where to get the latest firmware updater: https://www.native-instruments.com/en/specials/komplete/kontrol-update/
