Trouble Rebuilding Komplete Kontrol Preset Database – ScanApp3 Does Nothing

Hi all,
I’m using Macbook Pro (Intel) with Ableton Live 11 Suite, and Native Instruments Komplete 14 Collector’s Edition. I installed my libraries and apps on local drive, then additinoal instruments on an external SSD (Samsung T7 Shield) to save space. To fix problem with presets no longer showing, I deleted the komplete.db3 file (following troubleshooting advice). The database will now not rebuild.

Symptoms:

  • ScanApp3 launches but immediately exits without scanning.
  • komplete.db3 is never recreated.
  • Plugin folders /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST and /VST3 contain valid plugins but I get an error when I try to scan plugins, thogh the scan finishes.
  • Libraries are installed and working in Native Access.
  • Full Disk Access is granted.
  • Tried AppCleaner to uninstall and clean, but Kontakt hung. Smaller apps like Choral couldn’t be added.

Main question:
How can I reliably force ScanApp3 or Komplete Kontrol to rebuild the database from libraries stored on local drive and external drive?

Thanks in advance!

I visited the Apple Store and they ran quick diagnostics. OK. Loaded macOS Mojave. Next day, had a lot of problems installing Monterey (original OS) but Ventura install no problem.

Installed Native Access, Komplete Kontrol, and Massive. All presets and libraries were detected successfully. https://support.native-instruments.com/hc/en-us/articles/360014900358-Compatibility-of-Native-Instruments-Products-on-macOS

This issue is now resolved. I'll let you know if I have any other prolems.

    Thanks all for the help!

Hey @Rodo There have been issues with Komplete Kontrol 3.4.0 and plugin scan, although mostly reported by WIndows users. FYI there is a fix coming soon with Komplete Kontrol 3.4.1, I can even send you a beta version if you wish to try it. However I don't thinh the issue is quite the same.

You mention that you installed both libraries and apps on your external drive. We strongly recommend to leave the apps on the system's drive, to the default location: Macintosh HD > Applications > Native Instruments. For libraries, aka content you can put them wherever you want.

I would recommend to try all the steps in this article: Komplete Kontrol Crashes

How is it behaving after that?

Problem could be the cleaner app getting over zealous?

    Hi everyone,

Following up on my original post about Komplete Kontrol not showing presets on macOS.

I finally found time to work on this after several days. I tried your suggestions but presets never showed.

I performed a full removal of all Native Instruments software, including Komplete Kontrol and Native Access. I followed directions on "How to Uninstall Native Instruments Software from a Mac Computer" page. I then reinstalled Native Access, Komplete Kontrol, and Massive. All settings were set to default. Massive appeared to install correctly, but only a small number of presets were visible in Komplete Kontrol, with no improvement after rescanning.

    I verified:

    • No filters were active in Komplete Kontrol
    • Full Disk Access was granted
    • /Users/Shared/Native Instruments/Massive/Sounds/ was never created
    • ~/Library/Application Support/Native Instruments/Komplete Kontrol/ was not created, and no komplete.db3 file existed

To ensure a clean environment, I then erased the drive and attempted a full macOS reinstall. During this, I encountered connectivity issues with the recovery server, even though the Wi-Fi connection was stable on other devices. I'm going to visit a cafe near me to try their Wi-Fi to see if this helps macOS reinstall.

At this point, it seems the issue may be related to Komplete Kontrol not initializing or indexing content as expected, even in a fresh environment.

It's a pity I wasn't able to fix this. I was hoping to learn somthing. I'm a Systems Administrator and I'm usually good at fixing servers/computers on PC and Linux. My Macintosh experience is limited.

If anyone has further insight or has encountered a similar issue, I’d appreciate any suggestions. My expectation now is that after macOS reinstall I won't have problems with Komplete Kontrol.

    Thanks.
