Traktor Pro 4 causes Pioneer CDJs to crash

I'm having an ongoing problem with using Traktor Pro 4 in Control mode with Pioneer CDJs.

While playing on one deck, the other one freezes and crashes when loading a new track. I've had the issue with two separate Macs (one Intel, one Silicon) on two separate Pioneer setups, and never had this issue with Traktor Pro 3.
Does anybody have any advice?
Many thanks
Jason

    Heyo!

Would be amazing if you can send us a video of the issue!

    I will investigate further.

I also had problems with Traktor 4 and CDJ in HID mode. After little playing around I did the following:

    • disconnect the CDJs
    • open Traktor (if it's not already running)
    • Open Settings
    • Controller Manager
    • delete the corresponding CDJ model
    • restart Traktor
    • connect the CDJs

after this, everything worked like it should.

Do you use the CDJ as audio device? It is recommended to use the mixer as audio device if possible.

USB cables from the laptop into the backs of the CDJs, then using them as controllers in HID mode, like standard. I never had this problem with Traktor Pro 3, it's only since updating to 4.

A pair of CDJ 2000NX and DJM 850 mixer. All of which I've used for ages without any problems until updating from Traktor Pro 3 to 4.

Run a third USB cable from your laptop into the mixer, and then select the mixer that as your audio device in settings. Go to your output routing, change to 'external', & set L/R channels for each deck. Using CDJs in HID with aggregator has always been problematic for me.

Since you've experienced this on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs, it points to a Traktor config issue.

Do you have all the firmware updates in your CDJS?
Have you tried a different USB Cable as @mrmistry suggests?

@mrmistry that's a good suggestion and I'll try that next time, thanks.

It happened again on Saturday night in front of a crowd of almost 400 which really wasn't ideal. Thankfully there was another DJ on a separate system who covered while I plugged a controller in instead, but the whole experience is making me wary of Traktor now.

@Martiniix_NI it definitely points to a Traktor issue as opposed to Pioneer. It happened again on Saturday with a big crowd, on a pair of 2000NX that had apparently been updated the week before. Very stressful. I had tried the suggestion above of deleting the settings from the Controller Manager, with no luck. I managed about 20 minutes before the first freeze.

    Heyo!

    Sorry to hear about this!

Have you already reached out to support? Maybe we could look in your system and see if soemthing is making this crashes happen.

Seems strange that you already tried all the steps and nothing has changed.

@Martiniix_NI I'd be very happy to let you check the system out. If you need me to be connected to the Pioneers I'd need to arrange that as I don't have a set of my own sadly!
