Hey,

i would like to know if there is an capability of keeping the file in the library assuming that the file format has changed, BUT location and all that stays the same…

Thanks in advance

*Reason of asking is, the library grows and to keep the data mass small i would consider to choose to convert some of the .wav files…

You could search and replace the file names in the collection.nml

But I never tried it myself.

Yeah, that is the first part. Find anything that converts the files you want in large batches and who writes the files back into the same directory, so only the .wav ending changes. I would do it with ffmpeg, but it's a hard to use command line program. I never used dbpoweramp, but if it can batch convert and output to the same directory that should be gucci 👜.

After all that is done, you would need to trick Traktor in using the new files. Under ~/Documents/Native Instruments/Traktor X.X.X you can find the collection.nml

Open that with a decent text editor (For example notepad++ or whatever you like) And then search for .wav ending and replace it with .mp3

After you test that everything works, you can delete all the .wav files. Or maybe move them just to be sure.

I would recommend against editing the collection.nml unless you test on a few files first. There's a good chance that cue points and beatgrids will end up misaligned

Make sure the cue points are on the correct place. I don't know the details, but I think there can be cases with mp3 where they move 0.13 seconds or something like that.

one question resides… I still not looked into it, but how to replace the ALL the .wav endings in .mp3 in just one go?? Cause I’m worried, that would not work if, one by one… cause it’s just more than thousands, you know.

That is why I said you need a program that can convert them in large batches. I don't know if dbpoweramp can do that.

Foobar2000 can probably do it. And according to this post I just found you can do it with a tool called Pazera Free Audio Extractor. https://www.reddit.com/r/foobar2000/comments/q48jlj/convert_music_and_keep_folder_structure/

Probably best to try it with a single track first.

Notepad++ and similar can search and replace all.

Hey, for those who want an Update. Im in the process of conversion. Batch convert is lame, cause … just in Finder "This mac" - .wav a Tab & .flac a Tab, select all of those. Make two Tabs of poweramp, drop them in… CONVERT!

for those who are keen to know. the usual text editor freezes on mac, nothing special ... BUT BBEdit did the job, you can find in the Appstore. just edit .aiff. .flac. .wav to MP3.
