"In order to use KKv3 (correctly) - where KKv2 was there previously - you must fully uninstall KK v2.9.6 and then install KK v3 clean - where this "file" will most likely be stripped and recreated any way."
Not if he backup the files.
As i wrote here, there are 2 different files: Plugin_kk3.data (for KK3) and Plugin.data (for KK2), but they are identical! So, you can just rename the one, to use it with the other version. 😉
In worst case, KK will do a "slight" scan.
Tip: I do not format. I always have a "cloned" disc as a backup (which i update 4 times a year, to include newer stuff), just in case. But when i need to format (last time was 4-5 years ago) i always save everything from the User/AppData directory (and few things from Public directory), so after formatting i spend much-much less time to re-create my computer as it was.

Totally understand that if one is really technical and really knows what they are doing - you can go deep on this.
But for the typical standard user playback - where one does not know what to backup, does not stash this and rename that - best to get to a working layout as fast as possible.
But in this case - KKv3 is not supported under OS12 anyway and going there is a chance that seems odd to take - especially when KK v2.9.6 is very mature and known good under that OS.
