When will Reaktor7 come?

I wish that were true.
The forum dried up when NI transitioned to the new forum software without migrating the old threads, then wiped the old content. Can't see it ever getting back to the activity level it once had. The 'body of knowledge' was the main reason to prefer the forum over facebook or discord, but now it's been wiped, the community is more fractured. oops :)

It's a direct indicator of how they really treat the users of their software. It is a kind of litmus test of how they treat us.

Yeah, I didn't like that when they wiped it out. It started out as a read only then it was gone. That's like burning books. On the other hand they were probably paying for online storage or something. The way I understand it, some companies have several servers, especially online gaming. It's possible they were paying for more servers in it's hayday. Who knows I guess.

I agree. It just comes down to how the is using it. If I had then time I would have gone quite deep with it and kept woking at until I had become a bit of an expert. I would have even dived in to the maths and understood how that worked.
Alas, that didn't end up happening and I just started using it for its Blocks, which is why something like VCV might be a good alternative for me. Or I could just drop the whole idea about using modular synth in general. I got alot of other synths and there are so many ways I can get creative with them and go off the beaten track, especially, if use them together.
Its certainly the less risky option for me at this point.

Yep, and that is something I want to avoid buying into because its all very uncertain.
The amount of posts I've seen where people are crying because one of the old VSTs never got updated to 64-bit. Or it didn't get updated to VST3, or it didn't get updated for Rosetta. You watch, many wont get updated to run native on M class systems when Apple will inevitably drop Intel support within a couple of years.
I use Logic which requires AU, so we see much less of this, thankfully. You can avoid alot of this pain by noticing the patterns in developers and their releases. One of those red-flags is a developer no longer seeming to be invested in their software where you be lucky to get maintenance releases at all.
Generally speaking, that is the beginning of the end. Clearly their attention is elsewhere and that plugin has become a second class citizen. They obviously have stopped caring as much about it as we do and that's sad. Ultimately, one day soon that plugin will just not get updated to accomodate the next big change because the stopped caring about it all together.
This has been the case for the last few decades, but obviously there will always be exceptions.

Don't buy into software if you cant manage uncertainty or risk. In fact, don't do any creative stuff at all.

Once upon a time there was a DAW called Logic. it became very popular, lots of PC and Mac users switched to it and used it for their music.
It was very healthy and received regular updates!
Then one day, Apple bought Logic from Emagic, and immediately dropped PC support. Leaving all the existing PC users in the doodoo. No warning, no recourse.

Best option is to use whatever sounds good an inspires you while you can, Record your output and keep backups. When things change, move on, use it as an opportunity to freshen things up with something new - ring the changes.
Don't second guess what you have no control over. Reaktor is no more of a risk than any other music software. If it works use it, if it doesn't don't. When its gone, use something else.
The only risk here is that you worry so much about uncertainty and risk that you shut yourself off from a fantastic creative opportunity.

Well stated @colB.

When Logic bought eMagic they were still making Logic for PC for a number of years. That was the warning sign, however.
The point being is that once Apple bought out eMagic it wouldn't have been a smart idea to invest or keep investing in Logic on PC, its days would have been numbered too.
Apple being who they it's a pretty sure thing the will eventually drop support for PC. The better move would be to take the 3-5 years awarded to you before Logic PC was dropped and start either migrating to Mac or to a different DAW. You had time to sort it out.
You certainly wouldn't want to blindly keep using Logic PC until one day the rug was pulled out from under you. It's much more wise to take action while you can before its too late.
It's thing I've be reinstating over and over. Nothing is truely risk free, but some things are bigger risks than others. Of course, not everybody needs to risk manage like this, that's another topic. I however do need to work with one eye looking forward.

That sounds like Windows 11. I wondered what they had to gain by limiting their software to newer computers. Then I discovered Microsoft is selling computers now. I had a look and naturally found a boat load of Win11 ready computers. What's next, Win11 ready software. Probably, until someone else writes an operating system that runs old software. I have Win11 after a bios update and it actually works fine. Old programs still crash like they use too, nothing is really any better. Reaktor still works, so who needs it and you know they're not going to stop running expensive software packages. Not if all they want to do is break into the computer market. I suppose Logic users are suppose to buy Mac's now. lol At least NI is trying to support Mac's. Actually the whole thing is a joke, virtual computers are on the rise and they can run any operating system. Got an old program, run any operating system you want. It will still work. That's the theory anyways.

Not sure where you get 3 to 5 years from.
Emagic were a large independent music company. They were bought out by Apple in July 2002, which was a surprise to everyone at the time. All support for PC products was dropped in September 2002.

You know, there was no reason for dropping PC support. Their programmers should be perfectly capable of coding windows software. In reality, I think this type of action qualifies for a class action lawsuit. After all, Pc users bought the product and some spent a great deal of time learning how to use it. Then apple bought it and discontinued pc support to gain a marketing edge to sell their computers. I'd like to see that backfire on them. Jerks

I wouldn't count on virtual computers. I use those in my day job. Significantly inferior to running directly on a physical machine. Definitely not suited to demanding tasks where you need to get the best performance. And by their nature they almost certainly never will be.
Bringing up various unusual events like significant hardware architecture changes (extremely rare), Apple buying eMagic (a one off event unlikely to repeat) and so on changes nothing.
The only statement we have from from NI that is official is ‘Reaktor is definitely not EOL’. That is the most definitive statement that has been made that was not tied to a specific version. And they took the step to update for the biggest change in a long time.
Obviously, for some, management of beyond a certain level of uncertainty is required. For the general user there is no reason for concern.

Yeah, for sure, running a virtual machine on windows, like windows sandbox is terribly slow. I think virtual computers aren't the same thing as a virtual machine. The chipsets might be programmable or something that allows them to run a variety of operating systems. Hard to say what the future brings but I can picture it being possible.

Year clearly I was mistaken with that one.
Many companies have the 5 year business plans, or thereabouts. Apple seems to be no different. All their development cycles seem to be focussed around the 5 year mark. It's roughly the time you have with a new computer or device before the new OS won't run on it. It's roughly the time their transition periods take, PowerPC to Intel, 32 to 64 bit OS, 32 to 64 bit audio, their Swift programming language cycles and I'm willing to bet Intel to M Class processor.
I was under the impression Apple didn't drop Logic on PC straight away, I was there at the time. It was pre-internet days for many of us, pro Audi news travelled much more slowly. So either I recalled incorrectly or the news took a lot longer to hit Australia. I admit I guessed it was around 3-5 years, since Apple seems to do everything in 5 year cycles… or thereabouts.0 -
Apple may have 5 years' cycles…. By the way communist economy planners also have used 5 years' planning…
But on Win it is different. If Reaktor runs now, it will run in 10 years as well, even if NI does not touch it since now. And highly probably it will run in 15 years as well.
And there is NO sign, NI is not going to touch it and not to maintain it. It just seems that NI is not eager to invest in bigger development than let it run.
******************************************
To proove what I say is easy. There is no problem to run Reaktor 5 on Win10 (and most probably also on Win11). Reaktor 6 came 9 years ago, so Reaktor 5 is at least 9 years without any update. And one will be able to use Reaktor 5 many more years….
The simmilar applies to Reaktor 6. It runs on Win11, most probably it will run on Win12…. So it has at least a decade of life ahead.
