SysEx send commands and Komplete S88 MK2

Hi,

Through extensive testing and scratching of head, I presume the keyboard has no internal memory specifically to store the sending of SysEx files to play as instruments because even though I can see NoteOff/NoteOn, Expression data results (with MidiOx), the files do not load into the S88.

Using a Lexicon Omega USB midi interface with Omega drivers I can do this with a Korg M1 quite easily but not the S88.

But I'm confused as Komplete Control seems to load instruments into memory on the S88.

So is there anyone who can enlighten me out there, it'd be appreciated.

I do not know, what do you want to achieve, but if it is to load "sound" into S88 it is not going to work… It is just a bit smarter MIDI instrument. The sound is fully created in connected computer.

No, S88 cannot do that. It is just better MIDI keyboard. It does not have any HW to create sounds, it cannot work without computer or MIDI module that has ability to create sounds.

Oh ok, I hadn't understood that at all, as @Kubrak said, the Komplete Kontrol keyboards are just keyboards, they can't produce sound on their own.

@Jubbs The Lexicon Omega USB midi interface could be the problem here. The integration between our software and the keyboard rely on the USB connection and it's not just MIDI. Please try to connect the keyboard directly to your computer. If the keyboard is not recognised please follow these steps: My Komplete Kontrol Keyboard Does Not Start

Hi Jeremy, to be a bit clearer, I am trying to load a library of instruments into the S88 instead of playing them from the PC, which I can do, but have to keep going back to the PC to change parameters etc.

As an example, on my Korg M1, I could load a library from the PC into the M1 using MidiOx by sending a packet of data via a sysex package, that package includes all the Osc, gate settings etc in one file. By selecting receive on the M1 it would allow the instruments to be loaded into its memory, in fact, I could load a Yamaha DX1 instrument library or any other synth setup by sending it with sysex (system exclusive).

I could also send from the M1 to my PC the same way, to make a backup of any M1 memory cards or to use them on a different synth or midi keyboard.

So on to the S88, connected with midi through the Lexicon midi interface to my PC by USB, I can open MidiOx, use the preferences setup in Komplete Kontrol to select Komplete kontrol - 1 and EXT - 1. With this setup, I can use the MidiOx monitor to see feedback from the keyboard when I press a key or use the expression slider, note up/down etc, they all register as midi data, but if I try to send a library, nothing happens on the S88.

I think the S88 isnt setup or have memory to receive sysex data packets or send from the S88 to the PC, I can't find any way to change or to switch system exclusive settings on either the S88 or the PC with KK.

So, I may have answered my own question but to save any more time and energy, is the S88 able to play an instrument library (could be just one instrument or many) from its own internal memory ?

Thanks Kubrak, what you said makes sense now, the S88 is basically a midi controller, working through a midi synthesizer or midi interface, which in my case is a PC with KK7 as the sound generator.

So with that in mind, I should be able to "load" a vst, like the Korg M1 and play it through the S88 and then I will have to midi learn the controls to map them to the S88 knobs and buttons. That way I won't have to keep fidgetting between S88 and PC all the time to change the sounds.

Once again, thanks (to Jeremy too) for your help, I can close this off as solved.

    😎 👏
