Hello,
You could do it like that https://support.native-instruments.com/hc/en-us/articles/6226428761873-Triggering-MASCHINE-Scenes-with-MIDI-Notes-in-Your-DAW or route midi from the pads, that are controlled by the patterns you want to mix up, into your daw record that midi, then reimport into maschine after jamming around with the patterns. You could also record it as audio within maschine and resample it.

can't be done within +, you mean send the audio into a recorder and then resample it back into the +, I'm finding a lot things I want to do that seem pretty basic to me it can't do...... I guess that's what OS update are for.

Hmmmm, couldn’t you just set the pattern length to “auto-grow” and then just noodle around on an ever growing pattern until you get something you like? And then just trim the midi/set the pattern start and end points to get the good parts that you want to keep?
or maybe I am misunderstanding what you mean

This is a method of you play something within a pattern, let's say you play a drum kit. But the op meant to play/combine already existing patterns, can be very interesting if you set it to short switch times like 1/16 note.
