hey... just kidding try this one instead, it tracks perfectly across the full range without having to mess with anything and it spits out midi. you can mess with the glide to change the portamento time

Thanks Andrew, I'll check it out. Got a nasty cold right now, going in on day four now, Midi out huh, seems the pitch info will be going crazy, unless you rounded the pitch off to the closest note. We're all sick, something is going around but it's not covid. I'll give it a try and see what happens. Looks nice, I didn't know reaktor could make those kinds of displays. That's cool.

so, i am an not smart, because i just realized i've only really tested this thing on signals where the fundamental frequency was the loudest

that's kind of what the last one i sent addressed but i wasn't thinking about speech where the loudest frequency is often in the upper ranges. working on an updated version that seems to be following spoken word speech pretty good, which means it should follow hums even better

unless you rounded the pitch off to the closest note

that's what it did. though it should be possible to get midi out and also keep the fine pitch resolution by sending the offset from nearest note to 'pitch bend'

just for fun here's a sound example split across stereo recording with the input channel left and the detection channel right

the detection channel crossfades between a regular oscillator and the oscillator sent to a vocoder modulated by the input. kind of interesting how its much easier to tell that the pitch is matching correctly on the vocoded one than just a plain oscillator
