strange behaviour on MIDI i/o ports ... how hard can it be?

i've bought myself a PSU so i can utilize the S49's MIDI ports

initially, without PC turned on, i get MIDI out transmitting to sound module, signal appears on the mix console no problem

however as soon as my PC is booted up, i lose that MIDI out port (maddening) ... oddly, i can then monitor MIDI input in my DAW from both the S49 keyboard and it's external MIDI input - but i can't transmit MIDI through the S49's MDI out

soon as i shut the PC down the port is working again and the sound module is outputting signal

what am i missing? ... how hard can it be? :-/

*first time i've ever required a support ticket to plug into MIDI ports on a MIDI controller ... i've always just presumed MIDI ports work without any additional setup required

i can't seem to find any documentation on this either ... any insights much appreciated at this stage
