*** Not for Resale*** help!

Then a private person wouldn’t be allowed to to sell anything that was gifted or donated ever.
Not the same thing as private as if you are a company. And anyway then most places then I am sure that 'gifts' from private individuals above a certain value are also subject to have to be reported to Tax authorities (even in between family members).
Also then even if the NFR is a contract between you and the company then I am sure that there are still Tax consideration why that agreement exists.
But I am no expert in any of this and what I write is mostly what I think is right from what I have picked up through life. So you really have to contact N.I. Support and ask them about it.
Looking up the NFR concept generates an incredible amount of search engine noise , even more so in connection with 'tax' since that also can mean 'Non-functional requirement' rather than Not For Resale. Also the Not For Resale tax wise will popup in all sorts of connections. So very difficult to come up with any references that are very fitting for this occasion.

Indeed. BTW people don't sign anything at all when receiving NFRS.
According to ChatGPT "conditions attached to them are contractual, not criminal" if it's not a crime its not ilegal, altho of course it breaks the EULA/TOS/Whatever-else.
As far as taxes, anything you sell must be reported and you gotta pay taxes on it, anything, including a gift from a loved one, obviously no one does this — AFAIK theres no relation whatsoever between this and an NFR, if you break the law regarding the tax or not is not the business of the company who made the product, it's between the seller and his countrys government.
Who the heck declares income on things sold on the used market? Absolutely no one, of course it's still ilegal but theres just no repercussions at all.
With that said I agree it's a bit of an a-hole move to be out selling NFR's for the most part, but… better than have it rotting in a closet or landfill. Imagine how many NFRs influencers, youtubers, etc get? Do they buy a warehouse store all that stuff?
Im not gonna drag this topic as this will never change, it would be cool tho, even if it was after a grace period of say 5 years or whatever, or if only to gift someone else who might not have the funds… I'd give a few things i own to students for example.

Well, you can’t make a living from that can you? And usually you already paid income tax on the money spent to buy the sold items, which usually are sold at a loss. Now, if you sell an ultra rare original Moog modular system received as NFR in 1964 for 2 million € today, you obviously better declare that.

I mainly know NFR for software, and there’s really no waste to take care of. But it would be a great rule if NFR hardware could be donated to students and schools, indeed.
@Jeremy_NI any chance to forward these thoughts to your promotion and legal departments? Thanks.

I am not sure where this idea this would be related to tax is coming from. When we give away NFR, we specify to the recipients that these are Not For Resale, what you can do and can't do with it. It is explained in our EULA.
Well, if someone has a NFR and would like to give it away for charity or something similar, this person should get in touch with our support and I'm sure we can find a solution.
Now for the particular case of this thread, it would seem that the person that received the NFR tried to sell it through a second hand shop, without notifying the shop this was a NFR.

It came from Poorfellow, somehow he thinks 'tax evasion' is valid reason for NFR's being how they are, I also see no relation.
Oh, thats actually awesome Jeremy. 👍
