Komplete Kontrol will not start when external hard drive connected

Fresh install of Windows/Komplete software. Have content on external hard drive.

Windows 11 Home 24H2 / 11th Gen i7 / 16GB RAM

If external hard drive is connected Komplete Kontrol will not start. It stays on 'Waiting for product scan' for a long time then eventually moves to 'Initializing GUI' then crashes.

Also have issues with crashing if I try to use Komplete Kontrol from DAW (Cubase Pro 14). Get mixed performance and some crashing when I use Kontakt 8 (Kontakt 7 is more stable).

Note, I can play the content from the external hard drive from Cubase when I use Kontakt 7 (and sometimes Kontakt 8).

There is something in the load/scan process that is causing crashing when the external drive is connected.

What is located on the external drive ? Only 'Content' libraries or also plugins ?

Does these crashes happen when using Komplete Kontrol and Kontakt 8 as stand alone ? If not then that would suggest maybe something DAW related.

If happening with Komplete Kontrol and Kontakt 8 also as a standalone app then try Resetting the Komplete Kontrol Database , if that does not help , then I would try looking for an access problem related to Windows security or third party security. General problems could also be with the hardware , e.g. drive , casing or USB connection , but doesn't sound like that in this case.

@enar , have your problem been fixed ? and if so then what was the solution ?

I wouldn't say 'fixed'. The software is pretty bad. Resetting the database would allow it to start 1 time but then it would crash again.

I spent multiple hours on the phone with Sweetwater support (it was impossible to get support from Native Instruments). Only options that we came up with was either to only use Kontakt 7 or build a new Windows profile and use that (horrible solution).

I also ended up buying a new external hard drive (got the fastest one I could). At least I can open the software now…but I still get crashes and need to reboot the PC quite regularly.
