What are the system requirements?

It takes 10 minutes or more to load "Intimate Studio Strings" for use in my DAW, What can I do to speed up the process? Is it RAM, processor speed or what?

You need to supply some detail before anyone can help.

    1. Computer (with RAM and CPU onboard)
    2. OS version
    3. Disc type where the Intimate Studio String library is being loaded from (HDD. SSD. NVMe)
    4. Kontakt Version
    5. DAW Type.

Also then do not use any folders for anything that are located on e.g. cloud drives or are synced with cloud drives .

Disc Type: Toshiba DT01ACA200 SCSI Disc Drive

Despite that SCSI previously has been considered a fast disk type then at this point in time then the drive is probably a bottleneck compared to if you had a good SSD drive. With your CPU model in reference then your motherboard however probably do not support NVME attached SSD (unless attaching a PCI-E controller) but only SATA attached SSD which is considerably slower.

    RAM 16.0 GB

16 GB of RAM for normal desktop use used to be plenty but depending on size of music project and more then it might not be a lot and in fact could also possibly be a bottleneck.

Eventually you can check the How Can I Optimize the Performance of Kontakt?

I used a computer with i7-6700K CPU myself until late 2024 and were quite happy with it , I did however also have SATA SSD system drive and 48 GB of RAM , I myself only upgraded because I wanted to meet the Windows 11 requirements. I comprehend my own upgrade as sort of in wain since the whole computer HW and SW industry just switched to pushing an AI agenda where also CPU must have NPU ability built in , but luckily I think that that can be fixed by adding a GPU with NPÚ ability.

Anyway , the greater problem for computer users in your situation is that people have to make up their mind how much they will spend on improving performance of what is presently considered as already old hardware (I think that the i7-6700 is around 10 years old ?) . I myself thinks that we should not have to upgrade our computers so often.

This machine is a basic consumer model with a circa 2015 CPU and the hard drive is an old school spinner. While 10 minutes seems excessive to me - that is not unheard of with this CPU class and the minimal amount of RAM on board.

Bottom line - you will really need to upgrade that hardware to get your load times to reduce drastically. Today's modern composition machines (if considering multiple instances of Intimate Studio Strings etc) will need 64GB RAM at a minimum, most likely 2 NVMe drives - one for system and the other for the Kontakt libraries and a 13, 14 or 15GEN Intel Core Series CPU.

I run this combo here with Studio one 7 and my Kontakt libraries load in seconds.

Although everything that has been said is more than correct, 10+ minutes underlines there must be some other problem.

With the configuration you have, you should be able to use your products more than decently (although not as efficiently as with SSDs or more RAM)

Anytime! Hope you get this figured out.

FWIW - totally agree with @LostInFoundation as well.

10 minutes is beyond excessive and indicates something else (very negative) is going on here. Above and beyond just the CPU and/or old school hard drive

On that note I will just add , again, that you should never use folders that are located on cloud drives or are synced with cloud drives. We in between see that people with extremely long load times are using folders that are synced with or even located directly on cloud drives and that that is the issue. So just in case then do not use that.
