What instrument for 80th synth sounds and where to find patches?

Hello, a noob question :-). I'm looking for 80s sounds a la Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode and the like. With the amount of instruments that are included in the standard package, I have absolutely no idea which ones are best suited for this and how and where to find suitable patches. Can any of you give me a few tips on which instrument is best to work with and whether there are any suitable patches available?

Which software do you have? If you have Komplete Standard or higher take a look at Retro Machines, that's a sampled instrument that covers 70s/80s synths.
