Ways to overcome the C2 issue with Playbox

Hi there,

I thoroughly enjoy using Playbox with midi routing to other VSTs in my DAW. Unfortunately the FX modul creates unwanted C2 note events with a velocity of 127 which makes the experience really bad.

As already pointed out in this forum, turning off the FX module is a possible work-around, but it is a sacrifice I wouldn't want to make as FX in Playbox is quite powerful.

In my experiments I realized the C2 events only happen with the Lofi FX. As it turns out, it is the Ambience option that is responsible. You can reduce the unwanted C2 note's velocity by using the option "Post-FX" which puts the Ambience at the end of the FX chain. But it is still there. Turning of Ambience is a possible solution as you might have similar effects in your DAW available.

Using ARP | Strum | Grain alleviates the unwanted effect but it does not make it go away. C2 will be played as before but with much less velocity.

Other solutions depend on your DAW. In Ableton Live I use Midi effect "Scale" and just turn-off C2 (not ideal as there are other C2 note events you want to be played) or I use the Mide effect "Velocity" in which I set "Out Hi" to 121 and limit"Range" to 125 and set "Mode" to Gate. This solution works really well in most cases, but falls short when "Post-FX" is activated as the latter reduced the velocity of the C2 event.

I hope this helps others dealing with this problem. Playbox is a real powerhouse and it is a pity that Ambience creates this problem in the first place.
