Will Maschine SYNC better with TRAKTOR than other DJ software?

Hi,

I am running a Maschine mk3/ Maschin Jam currently trying to sync with Serato Dj PRO 3.2
I want to be able to create live loops on the fly with Maschine in time with Serato. I'm only familiar with the basics of Ableton Link and it's capbilities/limits.

Cujrrently

1) 've been able get the two linked successful tempos change responding from
both units.

2) sync on maschine is set off (the only other choice is send)
but i want the Serato pro to be the master. (don't see any where to set that)

3) Right now It seems Maschine does pause when I stop, and then press play again,
maybe trying to sync to Serato Dj Pro, but it's hard to tell if it's exact. It feels kind of loose.
Not sure if this is a beat grid issue not set up properly.

4) If i stop Serato DJ Pro, for example,
can i control if Maschine also stops, at current it keeps playing,
and Serato won't start up right back on time with it.

(this is for when i'm kind of creating beats on the fly and then mixing back into serato)

If someone could help me understand the basic mechanics and if i'm doing it correctly would be greatly appreciated.

I'm currently looking at X1 Mk3 / Traktor 4 pro instead but not sure if it will really sync better with Maschine through some internal means, as they are both using ableton Link.

Ideally would love the cliips to be in time, stop and starting. Wondering if it's always necessary to nudge a little bit… or..

Many thanks
Marcus

Traktor uses also ableton link. You could try the demo. I doubt it's much better.

Actually it is a little bit worse with Ableton Link usage. At least compared to a Bitwig and Traktor with Ableton Link. Because there is no link latency adjustments. 😅 You can't adjust the latency for a small issues with an Ableton Link. You can only enable and disable it. And It will synchronize both applications with a 4 beat bar/phrase.

For a MIDI synchronization I think it is OK.

The whole concept of Link is that there is no master. It's covered on the product page

The start/stop part of Link was excluded from the implementation on Maschine+ so the same could be true of the desktop software…

    thanks everybody for your comments,
After trying to link Maschine with Serato DJ pro Ableton Link unsuccessfully,
I gave up and found that Traktor 4 and Maschine 2.0 do link really well.
I also found maschine links up well to my Mixstream Pro Go, by. linnking well I mean
it has a latency setting as well as starts and catches up to the bar.
I have no idea why Serato DJ pro doe not work properly,
but i've discovered all the cool stuff within traktor 4 which will take time getting use to
but I see traktor has a vision for hybrid dj'ing waaaay long ago!

    thanks

The Link start/stop thing has been addressed in Maschine 3 and we now await the long overdue update to Maschine+ with the same fix (and more).

hey @PK The DJ do you mean it was a known issue with Serato DJ pro, or u mean in general?
I found i could get it working to my satisfaction with Traktor + Maschine, just not Serato Dj Pro, have not tried my M+ yet.

From my POV, the issue was noticed on Maschine+ when someone was trying to communicate start/stop over Link to/from other connected devices.

It was discovered that NI had not kept up to date with the Link version, or enabled the stop/start part of the protocol.

It appears the same was true of the version in Maschine (desktop software) as the release notes for 3 claim it's been added.
