Kontakt 7 "Empire Breaks" loading error
Cubase Pro 13, Win10.
I tried loading a project from a couple of years ago. An "Empire Breaks" preset ("Destroid Kid") would not load. The error was that it could not find the files. When I point the Kontakt to the folder to resolve the missing files, they load but another error that says something like "can't load MIDI files". The GUI looks really messed up, like the tab labels "SFX" etc, are all over the place and the wrong size. The instrument also says it's in "DEMO" mode.
I reinstall Empire Breaks in Native Access and the issue persists.
Kontakt 7 standalone loads this preset without issue. So does another instance of Kontakt 8 in the project. I didn't try another Kontakt 7 instance in the project as I didn't want any chance of corrupting the project file as I was on a deadline to render stems.
Fortunately, I used the preset mostly as-is so I could load it in Kontakt 8 and just get what I needed.
But ******??? Why could this not load properly and even cause Cubase to throw an exception error?

What version of Kontakt were you using in this project? Was it Kontakt 6? There was a series of Kontakt libraries updates breaking compatibility with Kontakt 6, you can read all about it here and find the installers to downgrade the library: Previous versions of recently updated Kontakt libraries / compatibility with K6 older libraries
Oh and btw, this might save you some trouble in the future, there is an automigration system in Place for Kontakt in Cubase: Notes about Auto-Migration of Kontakt Versions in DAW Projects
